I've got these two weird things when using divx with srt sub files.

- As soon as the subs kick in the screen goes dark, not totally black but the movie is hardly visible, it looks like somesort of overlay problem where the overlay is not 100% transparent.

second- subs are kickin' in wayyyyyy to soon. It's OK on the mediaplayer, so the timing is fine, I've tried fidling around with the
<SubtitleDelay>1500</SubtitleDelay> in the config.xml and the
<SubtitleDelayMVP>1500</SubtitleDelayMVP> since I'm using a MVP but that doesn't change a thing in the timing.

a hint (or solution) would be appreciated.

TIA

If you're on MVP, then I'm guessing you dont have the 'fully transparent OSD' option selected in the config app.

On an MVP I actually have no idea where playback is at, so I have to guess. It could be out by several seconds, which is why added the <SubtitleDelayMVP> setting (so the user could tweak it a bit). Following you comment that this setting didnt seem to help, I checked and found the reason it wasnt working. I've fixed this for the next build.

gee sub, that's quick.
Thanx for the reply, stupid me, i turned off the fully tranparent OSD for a test, forgot to turn it back on, sorry !

It would be great to have the sub timing feature implemented in the next release !

does the reg settings:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\devnz]

"WindowPosX1"=dword:0000001c
"WindowPosY2"=dword:0000001c
"WindowWidth"=dword:000002d0
"WindowHeight"=dword:00000240

have any effect, I've changed it, especially the width (and back again) but see no difference in the output on my TV.

The mvp subtitle delay can be very far off. I have it set to -(minus) 8 secs.Smile
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

It isnt intended that the users manually modify these registry settings. GB-PVR users them for remembering where the window was when last in windowed mode. They do work fine for their intended purpose.

-8 sec. that's about the same offset I've got. But what value do you use,
being the default 1500 (secs? mili secs?)
I'm gonna give a negative value a try.
thanx !

EDIT----------------

tried it and no effect whatsoever, guess we've got to wait till sub fixes this on the next build.

The setting seems to work, but I need to have different value for each video... it's not very practical.

Is there other way to show subtitles?

If not, can we at least have a <file>.avi.delay where I can set the delay for that file? Wink

Thanks

Its always going to be pretty rough trying to synchronize subtitles on the MVP. There isnt really any way for me to tell exactly where playback is up to.

I guess the only way that this will work is when the MVP stops naming the transcoded .avi files like "MVP000DFE001F1C1.mpg" and start using the original file name. Then you could copy the .srt in that dir on forehand. So no time difference between transcoding->playback and reading .srt sub files.
Doing a transcode and hardcopy the subs is the only sattisfying solution for me so far.

What keeps bugging me (prob 'cause I can't figure it out) is when using Haup sw (in comb. with the MVP) srt subs are perfectly in sync. If I'm correct they use a .dll file called HcwVSFilter a VobSub & TextSub filter. In combination with HcwOfflineTranscode.exe, a transcode util that doesn't allow configuring but........ when using GB-PVR .srt subs are way off, even when using mpeg files and no transcoding has to be done.
What I'm wondering is what's the difference? and how does this affect the .srt timing so much ?

I think this thread (now) belongs in the MVP section !?
