well, i think the time has come to move my gbpvr into production. the box is built, gbpvr is installed. plugins, skins all adjusted to my liking. usbuirt is attached, and now i have to configure my harmony remote. i have a a harmony 659 that i want to use to control my pvr. at home i have the local cable co's digital cable service. i want to be able to record off the digital channels, thus the uirt.

as it stands right now, the gbpvr only has the regular basic cable setup, but i will adjust that once in production.

i dont know the best way to use this box as a tivo type unit. my first thought was to have a splitter between the wall and the two boxes (one set-top box, the other the pvr). my tv has split screen capabilities and i can have the pvr box on one input and the set top box on another. sure this would record the analog signal, but not the digital, which is really the point im trying to accomplish.

how do others with a similar configuration have the gbpvr set so it records and changes channels on the set top box for digital or satellite signals?

if you know of any links that help explain this please let me know.

the second part is, how do your create commands on your programable remote? if i click the button on my remote to go to "PVR" how do you initiate the windows command to open gbpvr?

regards,

matt

About the second question, isn't your pvr box dedicated to the role? In that case you would leave the PC running GBPVR permanently.

I use a Harmony 688 with a MVP and it works great.

Yes i have my pvr dedicated to this role, but i have noticed a considerate decrease in screen quality when only running through the pc. significant enough to not be satisfied with watch live tv this way.

my second problem was with using the remote. i have almost all but given up using my motorola (shaw digital cable set top box) stb in conjunction with my pvr. the '0' key was not being transmitted. this happens when trying to access channel 20/30/210 etc. i would be sent to channel 2/3/21 respectively.

i was unable to understand the HIP and Girder software for configuring my remote, so i switched back to the analog signal, and just pvr off of that. using the webadmin to setup all my recordings.

so again, i am here asking for help. who can help me confiugre my Harmony 659 remote to work correctly with gbpvr and my motorolla stb. I do have a usb-uirt.

all assistance is greatly appreciated.

cheers.

matt

You should be able to learn from the stb remote the codes from the ir blaster and select uirt as the channel changer in the capture sources tab. Then under dvd and remote tab select uirt as the remote and learn the commands there to control gbpvr. The only thing else I might suggest is not to have the harmony remote use the stb commands to control gbpvr because you may also change channels on the stb box while controlling gbpvr.
