I've searched through the forum for a solution to this problem, but haven't found one.

New user / install of GB-PVR. WinXP Pro SP2, Visiontek ATI 550, PNY geforce 6200 128mb AGP.

When I launch livetv, I get a black screen and no audio. I can get to video/audio if I ctrl-alt-del to get into task manager, then simply cancel out of task manager. It takes me back to my GB-PVR session and I can then watch TV, change channels, get back to the menu screen, etc. I just do not have OSD. Also, I can record, but I get a black screen again when I try to launch playback (same ctrl-alt-del trick does not work, although I do get audio).

Have tried numerous decoders (currently using nvidia, tried many others that all seemed to have the same result). I think I tried most of the other solutions to any "black screen" posts I found. Most of those seem to be related to either a missing codec, or vmr9 problems, or something else that didn't apply here. Has anyone seen this before? Is it possibly related to my video card (this same rig worked under MCE, I thought I'd experiment with GB-PVR because I want o get away from MCE).

I have attached my logs.

Bit of a shot in the dark: Have you tried updating your drivers?

Also, is it any better using "Overlay" instead of VMR?

Thanks for the response, elite.

Yes, I re-installed all of my card, tuner, motherboard drivers. I tried vmr9 (9.0c), overlay, even tried the cyberlink decoder with the registry tweak, no help. I did not try vmr9 with the 9.0b tweak (figured if overlay wasn't working for me, then my problem lies elsewhere). Also played with various display options (using dual-monitor mode, cloning, etc), same result. In terms of shots in the dark, after all of the driver/codec reinstalls, I even tried an uninstall/directory delete/reinstall of gbpvr.

I'll swap out the video card next, just to try and rule that out (it worked fine with same HW config running MCE, so I figured it'd be ok here, but at this point I'll try anything). My processor/memory are mildy overclocked, I'll reset those as well. I keep thinking I am missing something simple that the more experienced folks here might be able to help me out with. That ctrl-alt-del thing seems like a good clue, but pointing to what?

Have you checked there aren't any NEW drivers on the manufacturers website?

Which (video) decoder are you using? - You can find it in the "Playback" tab of the config app. - Try using some different ones...

Also, we might gain some knowledge if you can zip and post *.log from the gbpvr directory..

Edit: Just spotted you posted the logs above - must read more carefully!

Yes, am using latest drivers for mobo (nforce4 ultra), video card (nvidia), and tuner (ATI). I've tried most of the video decoders that are listed as being supported (cyberlink, intervideo, a couple of others that I forget the name of, and am currently using nvidia). I didn't see anything blatantly obvious in the logs, but I have no idea what I am looking for which is why I posted them (everyone here seems to be very helpful, and I am hoping they see something in the logs that points me in the right direction).

Will be trying a different video card in a little while, maybe that will give us more information to work with.

You could try running regsvr32 to register ovtool.dll (away from my PC at the moment, so cant check the exact name).

Not having this registered could account for a lack of OSD when using the Overlay renderer. Its usually registered during the install, but it might have failed on your machine for some reason.

Ok, I registered ovtool.dll, still no luck. Was there anything odd in my log files (attached to first post)?
