My MVP works very well for playing video files.

However, when navigating the menus it will frequently:
- reboot
- "Locating servers"
- "Failed to locate GUI server"
- "Locating servers"
- settle down at GB-PVR opening menu

There does not seem to be a predictable pattern to *when* it reboots other than it's when using the remote to move through the menus. This can happen ever few minutes. Once I'm watching a pre-recorded show, there is absolutely no problem.

The logs do not show any error messages--it's as if the server stops listening for the MVP.

Anyone else see this? If so, any work-arounds??

Thanks!

Next time it happens, post the logs and I'll take a look.

tipstir Wrote:Look at your Windows XP Pro Event Logs for System and Application. That will tell you what happen. Most cases it could be DHCP Server Error (Router) Didn't redirect your IP address or fail too. Btw which Router are you using with GBPVR and MVP? Or are you using a Router?
No errors in either the System or Application log.

The router is a LinkSys WRT54G v1.1 running firmware v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c [May 12 2006].

DHCP leases (from the LinkSys) are for 24 hours. The restarts can occur every few minutes if I'm navigating the MVP's menus (always occurs on a button-press) so I would presume that the MVP would not be asking to renew the lease that often.

The dongle chosen does not appear to affect the restart frequency.

Thoughts?

Thanks Graeme.

It just happened again at approx 11:13am, so here are all the logs surrounding that time period.

In particular, I wonder about this in gbpvr.exe-2.log:

After this (unrequested) restart, it gave me the:
- Contacting Servers
- Failed to locate GUI Server
- Contacting Servers

I then navigated to one previous recording and played it briefly.

Then I zipped all the logs into one attachment.

Hope this helps--this is the one nagging problem I haven't been able to pinpoint.

Cheers,

Sorry, I'm not really sure. I've had a good look at the logs, but I cant see an obvious reason.

Thanks--appreciate it.

Would this be something that might be dongle-dependent??

i do have the same behaviour here.

no matter where in gbpvr i am (f.e. musiclibrary2, photolibrary), the MVP ocassionally disconnects and immediately resets back to "Contacting Servers..."-screen upon button-push.
That's very annoying as current playlist, photo position or similar get lost.

I tried the 0.97.13 standard dongle.bin and the 3.0.24088 with the same results.

Are we the only ones having this problem?

You might try a little optimizing of your operating system, like disabling unneeded services, defragging your hard drives etc. If the cpu load gets too high or physical memory is saturated on the server it can cause disconnects.
