dazza139 Wrote:Congratulations it works! Following your instructions above I restart emulation mode and the computer wakes from standby within 6-7 seconds. Unfortunately it takes a while for the computer to be ready to accept the request from the MVP and the emulation mode times out. After pressing emulation again it connects after 3-5 attempts. So basically GBPVR is ready for action after 20 seconds or so.
Although the code looked sound, I'm glad it works in the real world.
dazza139 Wrote:A couple of things are worth mentioning. If I turn off the MVP and restart the WOL connectivity appears to be lost. Lastly, can the number of attempts that the emulation mode makes at connecting be increased? This would allow the computer more time to wake up. I imagine it could be different for different PC's.
Saving the network data in memory that survives a remote power off was on my to-do list I was a bit lazy when I coded it this morning, but it is in place now, and I've up'ed the timeout to thirty seconds. A new dongle is available with these changes.

dazza139 Wrote:This WOL is fantastic and the dongle appears very stable, however having to give up functions like ff and rw limits its appeal. Do you plan to add these at a future stage?

I'm happy to do further testing for you.

I've planned on adding ff and rew, and all the other missing keys too, but I needed to be motivated knowing that someone might actually use it. I'd like to tackle these features, one at time, so that is why I was asking about priorities. Polishing up the uPnP is in progress, but based on your comments I plan to return to emulation mode in the next week or so.

As for testing I appreciate any help I can get, please send me a private email, with your email address, as I'm not comfortable using sub's forums for this.

Hi Martin,

I'd be more than interested in testing your dongle when FF/RW is implemented.
Well working FF/RW and skipping is very important to me (WAF you know).

Since I use the MVP with GB-PVR only I would like to have it defaulted to emulation mode everytime I turn on the MVP, is that an option?

I have been interested in this dongle since v.21 version; however, I don't use it regularly because of lack skip/reverse functions. I hope the skip function can be implement like GBPVR where I can configure to skip/reverse xx number of seconds.

I am not sure it can default to emulation mode or not, but you can turn off the extra button by using IE or firefox pointing to the ip address of the MVP and configure it to turn off the buttons.

Send me your private email and I will blind copy you, and anyone else who asks, on the progress of this. I have a bit of research and work with wireshark (ethereal) before I release but there will be sub-releases. It is clear that FF will be first and RW second. I understand WAF well, that is why I have 3 mvp's.

Absolutely, from the web interface configure Startup Emulation

I'd also be interested in this dongle ( with FF/RW ). This is something I have wanted to get going for a while now, so it great to see someone solving this problem - top stuff !.

Will this WOL work for PC's in Hibernate state also ?

There is no stock reply since WOL is a function of your NIC, BIOS and OS capabilites, but some will wake-up from Hibernate. The real answer is to try it and see.

Assuming that power savings would be your rationale for WOL, I do remember reading that the differences are neglible between Standy and Hibernate, so if Hibernate isn't available I don't think it is th end of the world.

Agreed , but it's mostly for the noise - in standby, the fans and PSU do not switch off in my rig. Since GBPVR will wake from hibernate to record and update the guide, it seemed the obvious way to go.

Having it wake ( and maybe re-hibernate ) on the MVP power button seems like a utopia. Or maybe I just need to invest in a new motherboard / PSU.
