Ok,

I just received and installed a PVR500 along with my already installed PVR150. I have my PVR150 as the first capture device and the PVR500 as my second and third capture device. I also have the svideo input of the 150 configured as a capture device for my digital cable STB. Now the way I understand how GBPVR uses the capture devices, it just starts at the top of the list and works its way down until 1 is free. If I have the s video input as part of the first card, that tuner will be the first one to be taken during any recording which will not allow the s video input to be free. What would be the best way to have gbpvr select the input card that has the s video as the last possible choice? Would it be easier to move the s-video cable to the 500 (and which s video input would be the tuner #2, the one on the main card, or the extension set?) or can I reorder the capture devices to the 150 is at the bottom? or what about splitting the s video signal to each of the cards and setting the channel listing the same so gbpvr can select whichever one is free?

I hope my description wasn't too confusing. Thanks.

Brian

As long as the last capture source listed is the one with s-video input, then it'll be the last one chosen.

No, you have remove and recreate your capture sources.

I'd be interested in the answer to this too. My local H/W guys there is no such thing as a normal S-Video splitter (like a RCA jack splitter) as the signal is too weak post-split. They showed me a rather more expensive powered (booster) box with inputs and outputs.

Thanks Sub. Now to add a bit of complexity, what if I do a 3 way split of the s-video signal from the STB into each capture card, then add a second capture device each for the PVR150, PVR500-1, and PVR500-2 using the s-video as the source, then assign the same EPG channels to each device, would GBPVR correctly pick an available s-video source depending on which card was available?

Thanks a million times over for all of the support you give!

I did some quick searching for splitters and came across Y-cables and also the amplified boxes. Never used either myself so I can't vouch for the quality, but just search for "s video splitter" and you will see some of them. I may try one for sh!ts and giggles to see if it works.

Right you are. Let me know how you get on ... cheap test :p Maybe that's for AFTER the booster box Smile

[EDIT] And here are a couple of againsts i..e. why you should NOT use a Y-splitter.

I also have a 150 and a 500. I set the 150 to have only s-video input and have it connected to my sat receiver with an EPG account for it that has only the sat schedule. So it records only stuff from the satellite. I have both of the 500 tuners set to cable input only and have a second EPG account for them that has only the cable schedule. I use the same EPG for both 500 tuners. So the 500 can record stuff only from cable. GB-PVR has only one s-video to chose from and two cable. This way there's no conflict between cable and satellite (altho there would be a conflict if there were three things to record off cable at the same time which has not happened so far). This works fine for us but, as always, YMMV.

Only drawback is that you dedicate the 150 to s-video and don't use the tuner...kind of a waste, I guess. It would be nice if there were a capture card that had only s-vid/composite inputs and no tuner.
