My USB-UIRT device arrived today. I have it running GB-PVR right now, with three shows scheduled to tape overnight as a test run.

It's working so far. I'm using a Motorola DCT2000 digital cable box. I have the USB-UIRT sitting right next to the cable box, and it changes the channels. I didn't test the range beyond maybe 4-5 feet. It doesn't weigh that much and kept falling off the top of the TV, so I put a paperweight on top of it to keep it in place.

Notes:

* You don't need Girder (but you already knew that).
* I think you have to leave the cable box on all of the time, right?

Pretty cool!

How come you didn't go for a serial cable, as IIRC that Motorolla is one of the few boxes where there are plugins/code etc out there to be controlled directly by serial cable *shrug*

btw, yes you need to leave the digital cable box on... nothing breaks my heart more than to come home and see that the cable box has been shutoff (either by cable company software upgrade or power outage) and to see all the shows I scheduled be just black screens... [Image: sad.gif]

Oh, I didn't know the serial cable was an option. Well, it's already bought, and it's working, so I won't fuss with the setup now.

I taped five shows since my last post, and they all turned out well. Burned them to DVD-R. Looks kinda washed out and a bit blurry on a CRT (that's to be expected, no?), but on TV playback, it looks very, very close to regular TV. I'm using the composite out on the cable box. Unfortunately I didn't get a cable box with S-video out, and Comcast said they won't give me one. But still, I'm very very pleased with the results. I remember seeing playback on my friend's ReplayTV - not sure what compression settings he used, but there was highly noticeable pixelation, so I was worried that this thing would turn out like that.

sub: Looking forward to seeng the new HTML go live. I'll probably install it on Monday if you have it up by then. Let me know if you have any questions.

Does GB-PVR support the DCT2000 line of cable tuners? Is there a setup that has to be configured to use the serial cable?

The is no direct support for changing channels via serial cable. That said, you can do it using the third-party Girder software and the GB-PVR Girder Channel Changer plugin.

Is it very difficult to set up Girder and the plugin? I searched the Girder site for DCT2000 and didn't find any info. Does it support the Hauppege 350 remote?

I've never really used Girder so I dont know sorry. I just know its possible using this approach.

GB-PVR supports the Hauppauge PVR350 remote.
