I couldn't comment specifically aboput your DCT2000 unit, however I went through a similar exercise with my Zenith satellite settop box.

I ordered the USBUIRT with the 56KHz option - I wasn't sure if I needed it or not so got it to be on the safe side.

Getting it all to work was pretty easy. GBPVR walks you through the process of learning your ir codes for the settop box channel changer and as it knows how to use the USBUIRT girder is not required for that.

However my situation was somewhat different to yours as I am not using the settop box remote to control GBPVR. I'm using a Lola X10 rf remote which has a USB rf reciever. Therefore I'm only using the USBUIRT to send commands to the settop box - not to recieve anything from the remote. I do need Girder to read the X10 commands and send mapped commands to GBPVR.

It seems you need to use the USBUIRT to do both recieving and sending of ir codes. There's a slight problem with that - the unit has it's IR reciever and emitter on the same side, so if you point it at your settop box, it won't see your remote control! However you can add remote emitters to the USBUIRT that can point anywhere so that would resolve the problem. However I'm not sure if anybody has tried this with GBPVR. I plan to try this out when I get round to building an external emitter for the USBUIRT (which consists of a 3.5mm stereo plug, some wire and an IR LED).

Take a look at this program and see if you think it would work under GB-PVR / Girder to control the cable box.

I have considered the USBUIRT but would prefer to hardwire it if I can get it working. After playing a bit with girder I think I am going to get it for more than PVR use. Have a boatload of X-10 devices and would like a good interface to them.

I am trying to setup the USBUIRT using Girder. I can get it to read and react to the commands but how do I configure it to send IR commands to my tuner box when I select a show to view?

That's all setup in the GBPVR config under the video source tab. There's a channel changer setup option in there.

Are you changing channels by IR or by serial cable? If by IR then you have an issue in that the USBUIRT reads it's IR on the same side that it transmits on, so if it is pointed at the settop box it won't recieve your remote commands. You'll need to build a remote emitter for it.

I am using X10 rf extender units to transmit the ir signals from the USBUIRT to the set top box (which is at the other end of the house but could be in the same room if necessary). Cost isn't excessive and relatively easy to set up.

I am using IR, cable company claims the port is not active on my unit and I tried, they are right. I got a plugin IR dual head diode that plugs into the jack on the back of the USBUIRT unit and placed one over the receiver on my cable box. This is working but after training with the remote and trying each setting in GBPVR controll for USBUIRT and combinations of "0" padding, 3 digit padding and send return after transmitting, the cable box will show the channel for a second then switch back to the prior channel without ever changing channels. I want to use my cable remote so I have been trying to set up Girder.

I just got my USB-UIRT today!

i trained the remote and it worked..

However.. I go to tv listing, select a channel and it works
I go back to the listing sleect another and it works
go back again and select a 3rd channel and then it just returns back to the gb-pvr main menu where I can select tv-guide again..

I select tv-guide again and then can select that channel..

Its like every 3rd attempts doesnt work and I have to retry.

any ideas?

I'm fighting as well to get GB-PVR to 'drive' a -beep- Noos cable box that fortunately very few people are stuck with in France.
I finally got GB-PVR to learn the signal from the remote as well as Girder... (had to be 1inch close to USB-UIRT to receive it).
Looks like it is a DC signal - at least this is what I understand from the Girder settings after a learn and/or IR Debug.
I'm now trying to get GB-PVR to change channels on this cable box; GB-PVR seems to send codes but even though USBUIRT emmits things (led flashes), there isn't any effect (ie change channel).
From what I can see, there seem to be no relation in codes between what Girder learned & what GB-PVR learned; should there be any?
I guess the next logical step is to try the girder plug-in to see if this works & pinpoint where the issue is...
Any help/idea appreciated.
