Have search the boards but cant find out how these differ other than if you have a blank screen then try one of the other ones.

Still learning GBPVR only have a few issues left to sort Smile

VMR9 uses a custom allocator/presenter, which enables GB-PVR to update the OSD graphics while video is paused or no signal detected (not possible with straight VMR9).

Also, the aspect ratio is handled a bit differently. Specifically, there is a bug in the nvidia drivers that can cause garbage on the screen when using DXVA hardware accelleration is enabled and using a non-fullscreen aspect ratio. VMR9 Custom works around this problem.

VMR9 Custom uses Direct3D to draw each frame to the screen. This can cause problems for some video card chipsets, though the common nvidia and ati ones should be fine.

Sub,

If we have a system that has enough horsepower to run VMR9, will running the custom VMR9 give us all of the features/options of the straight VMR9 plus the additional abilities you just described? Thanks.

In theory yes, but some users have had problems with VMR9 Custom, so both are presented as options. If one doesnt work, try the other.

Sub - would your comment above re "garbage" on the screen explain the problem I'm having with using anything other than VMR9 custom (ie overlay, VMR7 etc)?

Effectively I only get a picture in the top left quarter of the screen with the rest of the display corrupted unless I press F7 to change AR several times. The annoyance here is that it keeps switching back during ad breaks etc meaning I have to dive for the remote!

Yes, thats the nvidia aspect ratio bug. A big long thread about it can be found here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=16198

Ah thanks Sub, somehow I missed that my searching for the wrong things! I take it the nativeutilities.dll patch you created has been added to the latest builds now, and that you never got a response from Nvidia?!

yes

No. I'm sure they're aware of the problem though. I've seen it discussed on several forums relating to different apps.

Well fingers crossed then! Only reason it became an issue for me now that you've patched it was in another thread "Picture tear" you recommended switching to one of the other modes to clear up another problem I was having. Guess it's a trade off I'll have to live with.
