Hi Guys,

Is there any utilities available, that will let the MVP wakeup the Hibernating/Standbye GBPVR server. I have seen software thet will send a magic packet, but for this to work it needs to be two PCs.The MVP has a MAC address so there needs to be software installed on the GBPVR server, that listens for configured MAC address on the local network while the Server is in Hibernation/Stanbye Mode.

Hi Joe,

I think this requires a change in dongle.bin that Hauppauge should implement. If they would simply allow us to set a server MAC address (or use the MAC address of the server the MVP previously connected to, or patch the MAC address of the server uploading dongle.bin into dongle.bin) the MVP could send a WOL packet to wake up the server whenever the MVP is waken up from standby.

Of course, this will not work if the MVP has been powered down (for that to work the MVP bootcode needs to be changed), but I hardly ever power down mine (I simply put it in standby).

Maybe we should ask Hauppauge...

Regards,

Jan

Hi janviet,

That sounds good. I have used some programs that send a magic packet, but it requires a PC to send it throuh the O/S
using TCP/IP. It would be really handy to have the MVP wake up the Server. Is the Dongle.Bin Linux based? I will send a request to Hauppauge. I suppose the more people request the update the better.

You may want to swing by shspvr.com and check out the mediamvp section. There is some work going on there with modifying the dongle.bin. These guys may be able to help

I added this to the wishlist at SHSpvr a while back, probably shouldn't hold our breaths waiting for it.

Did anything come of this? It certainly would be useful to be able to click on the remote and have the MVP wake up the computer as well.

It requires going to shspvr's forum and reading up on the MediaMVP linux section on building a dongle.bin with a cross compiler. Then you got to add in your bits.

The other thing is I think hauppauge changed the way they do their src for the mediamvp so they no longer need to open src it. I could be wrong here but at this stage we need the src to at least a version of 2.x

Your best bet is to "encourage" some on the other forum. I don't think this is something that's high on their priority list though.

Well, theres not much room for manuevering in that answer, pity they didn't give a reason why, whether it is technically impossible or they just don't want to do it for some reason?
