Hey, to follow from the question i asked first - is GB-PVR going to support DivX at some point?

Ive been running the Hauppage software since I got the MVP, but recently switched to using tftpd32 and GB-PVR as per this thread:
MVP startup without Hauppauge server

Is it possible to run both the hauppage software and the GB-PVR at the same time - using the GB-PVR interface and the hauppage real-time MPEG4 decoding??

Im quite confused about the roles these 2 pieces of software play, and indeed where they cross-over each other.. Sub?? Janviet??

cheers guys

The short answer is no, its not possible to use DivX with GB-PVR on the MVP at this stage.

There is two main bits of software for the MVP. A media client which runs on the MVP, which is responsible for interacting with the MVP hardware (incl managing IR request, playing video, display menu screens pushed to it by the other peice of software). GB-PVR and the original Hauppauge software both use this exact same software.

The second piece of software is a server which runs on the PC. It is responsible for generating menu screens for display on the MVP, and passing chunks of MPEG1/MPEG2 data to the MVP when it asks for it. The original Hauppauge software uses some hidden Internet Explorer window for generating menus. GB-PVR is a replacement for this server, and uses a very different approach for generating the screens. You must run one or other of these servers.

Hauppauge recently added some more functionality to their server, which would re-encode other videos (like DivX) to MPEG2, before sending each chunk to the MVP. I've not had time yet to work out what exactly is required to do this, but will add it sometime in the future.

This DivX playback via PC transcoding, is pretty ugly and does have some big limitations, so isn't very high on my priority list but I will implement it when I have a little more time. I will probably have to use the same components (Mainconcept encoder filters) to implement this, so will probably end up with the same funny DivX resolution handle that the Hauppauge users currently bitch about.
