Ouch, that's nasty.

Frankly I'm amazed that so much is available via ATSC here in the States. I pay for a DBS feed so I'm aware of the cash grab. Yet, most of the people I talk to who're researching HDTV hardware actually RESIST the idea of free broadcast digital TV! Some don't even want to try a set of rabbit ears, but will fuss and fret over how much they'll have to pay to get HD satellite feeds along with a combined DBS/Tivo settop!

The sheep are properly trained, I guess.

Noob alert!

Must I set up a build environment to have a mvpmc.bin dongle with GB-PVR emulation mode enabled? Or is there a way to enable that mode with a prebuilt binary?

I tried getting GB-PVR to serve the MVPMC downloaded dongle. My wireless MVP pulled the MVPMC binary but just lay dark. Had to repower to get back to the released dongle.bin.

Thanks.

Martin, I found your site. I'll pull a copy of the alpha dongle and see what happens. May not get a chance to play with it until next week.

"Pulling the alpha dongle" sounds somewhat risque. Wink

There has got to be something wrong with GB-PVR users. Maybe there are "sub"-conscious messages hidden in the video.

In any case from your last message, I think I know your problem and it has nothing to do with being a noob. mvpmc doesn't currently support the wireless version of the MVP. Sorry about any confusion.

Aha! Gotcha. Well, I can still experiment using Ethernet. Do I need to do anything special with dongle.bin.ver? Can I ignore it, or should it reside in the same place as dongle.bin?

Wireless streaming is lovely indeed but AC3 audio would also be nice.

Thanks for all the guidance.

Martin,

I watch video with your latest dongle.bin yesterday, and 20 mins into the video, the gbpvr main menu overlays the video screen. I press the guide button to make it goes away but for only few seconds. I have the turn off the device to clear it out.

Upon getting back in to play the video again, it prompts me for resume or restart, I select resume button, but the video starts from the beginning again.

mvallevand:

Can you clarify if this is correct ?

I have the mvpmc version that plays from a replaytv and it works wonderful.

How can I play VOB's from my GBPVR server ?

Even better, is it possilble to play DVD ISO files ?

I had the understanding that Hauppauge could not support it. How does mvpmc accomplish this ?

I'm not sure that you read the other message I posted. The digital out at least for now, is PCM 48k not AC3. Sorry about any confusion.

I've never experienced that particular issue, but as far as I know emulation mode should only display the OSD information that gbpvr streams and then gbpvr would have to tell mvpmc to turn it off. I would really need your logs to diagnose this further. The mvpmc forums would better for this one.

As for the resume buttion, I actually thought I forced play to start at zero, because in test mode it is just too much of a pain for me, as I open and close the same 100 times a night. I've actually never even seen this menu come up in gbpvr, so I'm at least glad it does it when its supposed to!

You can't play VOB's or ISO files in emulation mode from GBPVR. The way emulation is designed, it will support any audio or video mvpmc supports natively, but gbpvr would have to be modified to serve it. That is certainly a lot further than I'm looking know, I just what to get it stable as is.

To answer your quesiton on how mvpmc accomplishes this you have to understand that the dongle.bin is really just a way to load software onto the MediaMVP hardware. A lot of people have done a lot of work to figure out what the hardware can do and how to do it. The Hauppauge software in their dongle doesn't at all maximixe the capabilities of the hardware.

This is really not unlike gbpvr itself where sub has been able to build a server far, far superior to the server software that comes from Hauppauge. I'm hoping one day via emulation mode to be able to do both gbpvr and mvpmc justice.
