Quote:mvpmc is the dongle that allows the MVP to connect the MythTV, ReplayTV and GBPVR. I happen to have ReplayTV and been using GBPVR for a while. I have to load the Hauppage dongle to connect to GBPVR, and load the mvpmc dongle to connect to ReplayTV. Now I only need to load one dongle to connect to both systems. replaytv, I see that you're a senior member here at GBPVR so, far be it for me to question your sincerity but your explanation of mvpmc as being 'just a dongle' seems to be a bit understated and your comments about connecting to MythTV, ReplayTV and GBPVR with only this 'one dongle' seems to leave out a lot of information I'm sure you'd like to share with us folks less in the know. Perhaps if you explained in detail why the mvpmc 'dongle' is better than the dongle that is included with GBPVR you'd have more of an audience. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback replytv, I'm glad things are getting closer.
As for some of the other comments this thread is becoming a bit circular, and I don't really want to duplicate what I've said earlier. I didn't read where anyone has said that mvpmc is better software then Hauppauge's dongle for running gbpvr in fact as the author of emulation mode, I'd say this isn't the case. What I do hope that mvpmc can or will provide to a gpbvr user: - PCM 48 digitial output (earlier I said AC3 but that is audio only) - wide screen signalling mpeg video - WOL support (Hauppauge says it can but I can't find it) - open source software not 100% dependant on Hauppauge for updates. - opportunity for gbpvr users to resolve issues with the dongle. Certainly when I find something wrong with a new version I'll try to fix it as soon as I can. - a goal to be as stable as the most stable Hauppauge dongle with gbpvr. What else does mvpmc do? As mentionned MythTV, and ReplayTV plus Slimserver, native a/v streaming from a share, a NAS or the Internet (no PC required) and basic UPnP (in test). Clearly anyone like me who wants a few of these features and also likes the power and elegance of gbpvr would profit from not having to load two different dongles, that was my initial motivation. However this is a gbpvr forum and I'd prefer not to discuss these further. Martin

ggee Wrote:Can you supply your MVPMC config file? I'm still a bit confused on how to connect to multiple servers. How many different servers can I connect to?Right now its not as easy as I'd like, the default is to connect to the first server that identifies itself. To change this - point your browser to the MediaMVP IP - modify the "MVP Server IP:" to the desired IP - you can also modify many of the mvpmc capabilites hee, ie turn off features you don't use, ie setup shares via this screen. If you want to autostart emulation mode on power up select Startup Item: Emulation - power off and on via the remote control to reload the setting. If you want to get out of emulation mode hit Go then Back/Exit. The browser interface is available when emulation mode is running but the only thing that is useful here is that you can power off the mediamvp remotely. Note that a WOL will be issued to the mac address that mvpmc previously connected too. Martin |
