I'm not sure how to get around the "interact with desktop" issue with the way the plugin is currently designed, since it runs within the background service.

One option might be to shift this functionality to either the standard GB-PVR tray app, or to the SlimmGB-PVR application as these monitor the running services externally, and could probably display MVP icons in addition to the main GB-PVR icon.

How about optionally having the MVP Status actually available from within gbpvr? An MVP Status page you can get to from the main menu.

I love the MVP tray icon when I'm working on the PC as I can tell if I have someone in the house connected via the MVP. However, when I'm actually running the gbpvr GUI on the PC, I run it fullscreen. In this mode the tray icons aren't useful since they can't be seen and I've often wished I could see the MVP status another way. If you're one of the users of the Shutdown plugin, being able to see the MVP status within gbpvr is really useful.

This doesn't exactly solve the problem with the lack of desktop interaction available when running the recording service with a user account, but it would make the plugin useful even to those that do so since they'd have another way to see it's output.

Just a thought... great plugin regardless.

Am also one, who wishes that this great plugin be seen from within GBPVR as I can see if anybody is logged on to GBPVR "network". I have 2 MVPs and I watch through the PC, and it would be great to know what and if anybody is doing through the plugin.

I also noticed the "interact with the desktop" disappearance of the MVP Icon. I also wish that this can be resolved as well as, having the "interact with the desktop" checked restarts the GBPVR service whenever somebody logs off from WinXP which does not happen when the "interact with the desktop" is not checked.

Am still battling with having the MVP Tray and the restarting service.

I have my machine set up to auto reboot every morning. Is there any way to use this pug-in to keep the machine from auto rebooting when someone is watching the MVP or for that matter rebooting when it is recording?

thanks

I have been unable to get mvp tray icon to display anything in the system tray.

The dll is in the plugins folder and the following is in my config.xml.

<PluginSettings>
<SomeExamplePlugin>
<AreaCode>20171</AreaCode>
</SomeExamplePlugin>
<MVPTrayIcon>
<MAC-000DFE000DD1>
<MVPName>Family_Room</MVPName>
</MAC-000DFE000DD1>
<MAC-000DFE000F09>
<MVPName>Family_Room</MVPName>
</MAC-000DFE000F09>
</MVPTrayIcon>

...

And I get no icons in the system tray and nothing of note in the gbpvr log.

I do run my GBPVR recording service in a user account, does that matter? if not any other ideas?

I think there is a setting in windows-services-gbpvrrecordingservice, you have to allow the gbpvrrecordingservice to interact with the desktop.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,

The above is true, but the GBPVR service should also run under a local (system)account. This excludes the use of resources on network drives outside the GBPVR machine.

Hello,

first i have to say that the tray icon for mvp is great. my problem is that i am trying to set it up so that it shows the location on the mvp devise. i have 2 mvp's. one downstairs that i bought 1st. the second is upstairs that i bought second. i have entered the script in the config file and am able to get the icon for the upstairs mvp to display correctly. i can't get the downstairs to display correctly. the downstairs icon displays what is playing on the devise but not the location. below is how i have it entered in the config file. please let me know what i need to change to get it to display correctly.

<MVPTrayIcon>

<MVPTrayIcon>
<MAC-000DFE008B52>
<MVPName>Upstairs</MVPName>

Seem like you have extra <MVPTrayIcon>, I think this should work.

<PluginSettings>
<MVPTrayIcon>
<MAC-000DFE008BF8>
<MVPName>Downstairs</MVPName>
</MAC-000DFE008BF8>
<MAC-000DFE008B52>
<MVPName>Upstairs</MVPName>

</MVPTrayIcon>

i tried this with no luck. it still shows the upstairs name but not the downstairs name. Rolleyes this is really not a big issue but would be nice to get it to show both names. i thought that i had seen a screen shot somewhere that showed both names shown but am not sure where. thanks for helping. let me know if you have any other ideas. Cool
