Quote:I've tearing at 720x576i too, and the trick of the "VMR9 fullscreeen exclusive mode" in config.xml resolve it. But now,as you say it, I have several problems with OSD.
Sub, it would be nice if you could fix it in the next realise. Nvidia people is almost half of GBPVR users, please don't forget us
I did look into, but its not going to be practical to get it working with GB-PVR. There are several issues that mean it wont play nicely with GB-PVR's GDI+ based interface. I would need to convert the interface to DirectX, which would be a massive job, and not worth it in my book. Sorry.

How about just implementing it so that its usable? I can live without the OSD. I'm sure lots of people would appreciate even that. Just a suggestion.

I recently made a thread about stuttering when I had VMR and hardware acceleration enabled...I didn't think it was related to this since I'm not viewing HD content and I had been able to isolate it only occuring when I had VMR AND hardware acceleration enabled.

But on a whim I went and enabled fullscreen exclusive mode and the problem vanished. This is with VMR9 Custom and HA enabled.

Even the ticker on CNN, which before had more...jumped across the screen than scrolled, is perfectly smooth. Obviously this solution isn't ideal, but I'll take it. Thanks guys!

1) Sub, what about <VMRWindowedmode> ?

2) Surfing the web I found those parameters to resolve tearing for nVidia cards:"Triplebuffer=on" and "Vsync=on". I tried them and something change. No tearing in a my small reference video. Tomorrow I'm going to test a long film.

I just tried the same settings to no avail as well. As a matter of fact, I've messed with ALL of the advanced settings in the driver.

The very bottom line to ALL of these tearing and jittering threads in these forums is that nothing short of using Full Screen Exclusive mode will work. As a matter of fact, this issue is present in just about every HTPC / media software forum on the net, and FSE is the only known solution.

That being said, I tried MediaPortal and Sage in the past few days because they support FSE. The picture in both cases was beautiful. The UI's seemed to work okay in conjunction with FSE.

That being said - I'm back to GB-PVR because nothing beats it's intuitive menuing, flexibility, and general stability.

The Sage GUI (even V6) was VERY cumbersome - buttons inside of buttons, disorganized menu structures, you have to drill down through many menus for simple functions, etc. Watching TV with no jitters, no tearing, and great PQ was a pleasure, but it seemed to take 10 minutes of navigation to get there!

Media Portal has an excellent GUI, and has a lot of potential, but right now it's like a Porche body on a Yugo chasis... Picture was great though.

Sub - if youre interested:

I did run FSE on GBPVR tonight while trying various settings. There is a certain combination of settings that works very well with one exception - when you exit TV back to the main GUI, most of the time the last video frame stayed painted on the screen, covering the GUI. HOWEVER, the GUI was still active as I was able to navigate "in my head" by counting key presses and activate various functions. To get the GUI to repaint, all I had to do is ALT-TAB twice. The first ALT-TAB cleared the overlapping video frame and exposed the desktop with GBPVR minimized to the tray. The second ALT-TAB maximized GBPVR and it's normal GUI was displayed and fully active.

Seems to me this could be done in code by forcing the application to the foreground or repainting the application interface - I don't know C (only VB6).

Food for thought - I know you aren't particularly interested in reworking for FSE, but this seems to me to show a glimmer of hope that it could be done without rewriting the whole GUI engine.

The other commercial and non-commercial apps are including FSE, so the demand is there.

<Renderer>VMR9</Renderer>
<VMR9CustomAllocatorRenderer>true</VMR9CustomAllocatorRenderer>
<VMR9CustomUseFullscreenExclusive>true</VMR9CustomUseFullscreenExclusive>
<VMRWindowedMode>false</VMRWindowedMode>
<VMRDeinterlaceMode>auto</VMRDeinterlaceMode>
<VMRPreferYUVMixing>false</VMRPreferYUVMixing>
<VMRYUVDynamicDecimateBy2>false</VMRYUVDynamicDecimateBy2>
<RememberProcAmpSettings>true</RememberProcAmpSettings>
<UseFFDSHOW>false</UseFFDSHOW>
<MinimalVideoOSD>false</MinimalVideoOSD>
<OSDTransparency>125</OSDTransparency>

Yeah, but it doesn't work with many nVidia cards (like mine!).

Get audio, no video. Others have this too with no errors in the logs.

Others trying overlay on an nVidia get the aspect bug (picture crammed into the upper left corner, garbage pixels for the rest of the screen).

Plus, from what I understand, the video quality is not as good without VMR (I'm running HD).

I'm thinking about making a tiny plugin that receives the VideoStop event then directly tells windows to bring GBPVR to the foreground and repaint. This would solve the ONLY issue with FSE outlined above.

Unfortunately I only know VB 6, I'd need to muck around in C or VB.Net to make this happen.

So much tinkering, so little time Rolleyes
