I'm currently looking at building an MVPMC to GBPVR converter, but don't hold your breath! I'm basing it on the mythtv support already in MVPMC, so one part of it will pretend to be a mythtv server. Unfortunately, MVPMC accessess the mythtv SQL database directly, so I've got to come up with a solution for that... It's VERY early days at the moment...

Since I've received some private emails on this, I'd like to provide some feedback.

The way I understand it Steve is planning on writing a new client interface with gbpvr acting as a backend with the assumption that he can somehow reduce the load on the gbpvr server.

My approach with mvpmc is completely different as I try to emulate the functionality of the the Hauppauge dongle to provide a known client to gbpvr. This should provide complete compatibility with the existing gbpvr gui and all the plugins as long as sub supports the mediamvp. When Steve's develops I will probably talk about mvpmc EM for emulation mode to distinguish what I am doing.

Although it could cause confusion, I see room in the mvpmc project for multiple methods. After all I know of 6 different ways mvpmc can stream video and 6 for audio.

Hi,

My new MediaMVP is supposed to have an S/PDIF connector on it.
On the scart are 2 trailing leads with rca connectors attached.
Am I right in thinking they are the s/pdif connectors. If so which one do I use?

Hope someone can help I'm new both to this forum and MVP

What is the revision number showing on the bottom label of your mvp? Here in Canada I know some places are still selling the older models that don't have the digital out as "new".

Hi all,

just to let you know a UK bought MVP 3 weeks ago was now sporting an RCA connector as a SPDIF output. I have yet to establish whether or not that it decodes AC3 to my surround sound system as I am in the process of moving house and still playing with GB-PVR. I would have posted a nice piccie of the backend of the MVP but do not have a URL from which to do so.

My NTSC MVP rev H2 has a black RCA port called the I think is the Spdif sound. Haven't got anything to test it with, but I think any new MVP will have this...

That would be something. The biggest drawback of teh MVP is the slow response time to remote commands when navigating menus. mvpmc has very fast response time, since all processing is local.

Just for fun, I used GB-PVR to load up mvpmc, by putting the mvpmc-dongle.bin in the GBPVR dongle directory, and selecting it in GBPVR config. Couldn't do much, since I couldn't load a .config file, but it booted up into mvpmc just fine. Very responsive controls.

My latest alpha on http://www.mvpmc.org/~mvallevand should allow you to load a dongle.config without tftp.

To use this feature create a windows share named mvpmc on your GBPVR box and save your dongle.bin.config into the folder you are sharing.

Some valid command line options of interest to GBPVR users are:

Connect to first gbpvr server mvpmc finds
mvpmc --emulate ?

Connect to specified gbpvr server
mvpmc --emulate 192.168.1.1

Add --startup emulate
to go right into emulation mode when you power up.

Hitting Go then Back/Exit to return to the mvpmc main menu from emulation mode.
