Well the St. Lawrence is not really a sea and we use NTSC in Canada too, so we can use the same model of mvp's. The only major difference was our Canadian Radio Shacks didn't have the mvp's for $39 last year since they are owned by Circuit City not Tandy (I tried though).

In any case I was really just trying to say I didn't think skipper_nz's problem was the router/switch.

tipstir Wrote:I had one of those last night. I had press the guide button while looking at the guide on MVP. The darn thing re-started and kept on trying to find a network connection.

This is what I typically see happening (see my post above). I have seen a similar behaviour when I first played with GBPVR early this year. At that time server and MVP were only connected via a Linksys switch with about 5m each professional grade CAT cable. If I find the time I will try that setup again to see if my problem indeed is depedent on cable length and number of swithes/routers in between.

I tend to agree with Martin that the cause might be somewhere else. The attached logfile suggests that it is the server that initiates the disconnection. But I must admit that I am not knowledgeable enough to make that judment.

I would have to agree with Skip. I've also notice a sharp increase in the # of reboots after version .98.08 when the dongle.bin file was included in GBPVR. I was hoping that version 98.13 would have helped the problem, but it has not. I will try the dongle that spyder40 mentioned in an earlier thread.

Skippy NZ

Glad it helped. Mine's still running stable as a rock since the change. I haven't tried the PIP but didn't use it anyway so if it's gone no loss. I think it evened fixed the weather here, been in the 50-60's for a week and isn't going to go down until Friday. My only wish for GBPVR at this point is CAM support so I can put a satelite card in my PC.

IIRC, approx 100' is the maximum run of a single ethernet cable before significant degradation...

Ethernet spec is 100 meters, not 100 feet. 100m is approx. 328ft.

The max distance can vary beause the power of the router/switch varies from one brand to another.
Always try to keep the cables away from other cables (220V).
Keep away from microwaves etc.
When you make your own cables stick to the recommended pairing (colors).

This version of the doggle appears much more stable than before. Have used it for about a week looks much better. The MVP only rebooted once after terminating watching Live TV and going back to the main menu, but I've seen that in the past and don't really use that feature too much.
Thanks Spyder.
