I have 4 MVPs.

and I have 4 little dos box's that come up when I boot, which say they are someting like the mvp server things, and don't close them.

Ok, they are small in the bottom left, but still.

But,

when I run the config and I get the message the gbpvr recording service is re starting , the box's disappear.

But,

My MVp's still work just fine.

So, question.
why the box's on the screen ?

It actually creates the MVP apps with hidden windows, but depending on the time, the desktop starting can cause them to show again. Damn annoying.

When you restart the recording service, it again creates these processes with hidden windows, but this time the desktop is already running, so it doesnt do this strange behaviour of forcing the MVP windows to become visible.

any obvious way of getting rid of them ?

sily question, do you have to use dos box's ?

Not knowing much about this, I'm thinking similar things I have like the netgear server, the squezze box server, even the gbpvr recording service don't have dos box's.

They're not dos boxes. They just happen to be black windows with white text. You only need to them if you want to use your MVP with GB-PVR. The MVP processes have these windows so that they can receive window messages.

I only run my MVP with the GB-PVR MediaMVP Server shortcut as i dont have any recording facilities, and I find that it uses less RAM running these than running the full config ap. What I'm wondering is can i just run the GB-PVR MediaMVP Server but with an taskbar icon or just hidden altogether rather than have the minimised black window?

Im not asking for this to be a feature, just wondered if it was possible?

cheers

I apologise for replying to an old thread, but hope maybe this will be of help, as I had a similar problem and found this to be quite a good solution. Unfortunately it's not automatic, but only takes a few seconds and it removes the windows and makes them hidden again easily.

I found a nice utility program named WinSpy++ ( http://www.catch22.net/software/winspy.asp ) which allows you to manipulate windows, controls etc.

What you can use it for is to reset the hidden property for the MVP windows, removing them from alt+tab and from visibility. Simply drag the target onto the MVP window, select the down arrow by the word Handle, and untick visible.

Now it'll go back to being hidden as it should be - hope this helps Smile

You could try this - it worked for me - before having to install new software:
1. Bring up the "services" console - type services.msc under the "Run" command of the Start menu.
2. Select the GBPVR Recording service and open up the Properties (right-click)
3. On the Log On tab, uncheck "allow service to interact with the desktop"
That should do it.
