Disable LiveTV buffer

When I watch LiveTV, video is too slow for watching while audio is working perfect. I figured it could be because of the buffering to disk, but why would audio be no problem at all?

Anyway, is there a way to disable buffering and to watch tv directly from the card? I don't care about timeshifting.

If it's not the buffer, what's the most common reason for slow video? My comp. has no problems at all when I watch a divx for example, so I don't think it's the disk or comp. speed..


edit: nevermind, I just saw at the wiki that it's impossible to disable this 'feature'

What do you mean by "slow"? If you mean that the video is lagging a bit behind the sound, then if you have a pvr-350 (and maybe otherwise too?) it could be worth trying to defragment your hard drive. That did the trick for me.

Do you have slow video when using WinTV?

What way is you sound being used? Ie. are you taking this to a external amp setup?

I'm sorry for providing too little information. I mean when I watch LiveTV, the audio is running continuously, without any gaps like it should be. Video however, lacks *a lot* of frames.

Running other video files from hard disk doesn't lack any frames. Sound is sent to an external amp, but it shouldn't matter since otherwise I would use the same audio plug to send audio to the TV.

It can be a bit slow changing channels and starting live tv, but it shouldn't lack any frames.

Do you have a slow machine? What MPEG2 decoder are you using?

When I use WinTV, it works perfect without missing frames.

Sub, you're right about having to wait a while before being able to use livetv; it takes about 7 seconds on my machine. Then I see about two seconds of the video, which then halts to continue about 10 secs later again for a short time. I said audio is running fine, but this isn't the case after about 20 seconds; there's a very small gap sometimes.

My machine is an athlon 1200, 896MB and a dedicated hard disk for the video files (7200RPM ATA100).
The MPEG2 decoder is InterVideo's Non-CSS Video Decoder and I use the Overlay Manager, since both VMR9 and VMR7 didn't work. I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR250.

I found the problem. Sorry for blaming it on GB-PVR, but it was the most obvious thing since WinTV did work. The problem is my eMule. When I shut it down, I have no problems at all using LiveTV. The strange thing is that both use different hard disks for their data and they are connected on a separate IDE channel, so I guess I have to find out myself why eMule is disturbing GB-PVR that much.
Anyway, thanks all for their help and sorry for not looking into the problem enough myself..

Its all part of the learning experience

It would be useful to know more about eMule as to whether it is that application causing the problem, or maybe the type of application. Maybe its hogging a resource, like in the communications area which GBPVR is maybe contending for?
