hi there,

i'm using the latest gb-pvr 0.98.13, with dscaler decoder.

the card is hauppauge pvr-150.

i'm getting the best picture quality in overlay mode, but i'm having a weird problem while using overlay mode and watching live or recorded tv, the quality is great, but while watching mpeg4 files, the osd looks like it's in zoom-in, everything in the osd looks pixalized, and the video itself is being shown only on part of the screen, while everything else is black.

i don't understand why it's happening, because if i understood correctly, the overlay or vmr modes affect only mpeg2.

i tried switching to another decoder (nvidia pure video) and it's the same. only when i switch back to vmr9 it's on full screen and there is no pixalized osd, but them again - lower video quality.

btw: the bigger and pixalized osd while in overlay mode is on livetv too, but there the video itself is on all of the screen.

recording - sometimes, when i press the record button and select "record until i exit live tv", the video crashes and i get a message: "object is not set to a reference...". why is it happening? is this a known problem?

volume - why can't i change the volume while listening to mp3's?

one more - is ther anyway of watching livetv without the 1-2 seconds delay?

i tried changing the deinterlacting is the "misc" tab in the config program, and than there is no delay, but the quality is not that good. when i'm using the dscaler program, i'm getting no delay, and a great quality.

thanks in advance,
amit

one more very annoying problem i forgot about - while using timeshifting mode for more than a few minutes, the picture freezes while trying to skip a minute forward. somtimes it's getting back after hlaf a minute and sometimes it's staying in pause mode, and there nothing i can do about it other the closing gb-pvr and start again.

any ideas?

The pixelated OSD is standard with Overlay, where the OSD resolution is tied to the video resolution. If you watch a low resolution video you get low resolution OSD. If you watch a high resolution video you get a high resolution OSD. This is a limation of the Overlay renderer, not GB-PVR, and just something you'll need to live with. (if you're downloading movies from the internet download fullsize ones as opposed to smaller resolution ones that are often available).

You should be able to when you're on the main menu, but probably not on other screens (since these keys are probably used for other thing...historic reasons with Huappauge 34 button remote sharing volume and navigation keys)

When you've got live preview enabled, with the deinterlacing set to encoder passthrough, then the delays is about half a second, not the 1-2 seconds you're referring to. As you've already found, the other deinterlacing options can be used to reduce this, but you'll need to install some third party deinterlacing filter to do this.

Personally I'm happy with the default half second delay. I'm the only PVR app that I'm aware of that gives this live preview mode, most are always buffering to disk meaning a two to three second delay - so channel changes in GB-PVR are very fast compared to these other apps.

thanks for your answer

i can live with the pixalated osd, but not with the mpeg4 files being shown on only hlaf of the screen. i don't understand why the overlay affects the mpeg4 files.

i'm attaching jpeg file of a print screen. i painted a square where i see a picture. those are good quality mpeg4 files. it's not a problem with divx\xvid decoder, because in media player i see it on the full screen.

thanks,
amit

Its most likely related to the MPEG4 decoder you're using. Try a different one.

Nothing springs to mind, and I've not seen any other reports of this behaviour.

Try playing one of these files, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe-native.log and I'll see if I can see anything obvious.
