I'm pretty new to the whole PVR scene, and while I'm generally pretty good with computers, I haven't been able figure out how to convert my dvr-ms files to another format for burning to a dvd. I noticed a transcode button on the GB-PVR, but when I push it, nothing happens.

On a side note, will my recordings with GB-PVR be dvr-ms or mpeg2(I did set it to auto-convert dvr-ms to mpeg2, but that doesn't seem to be working)

It can do this conversion for you, but you need to have the Cyberlink mux filter installed. It can be flakey with ATSC HDTV recordings though. Other digital recordings should be fine.

They will always MPEG-2 recordings, but that might be in a .mpg file or a .dvr-ms file or a .ts file. Which one you get depends one which type of capture device you're using, and for digital cards it also depends on which mux you're using.

You'll always get a .mpg when capturing with an analog card.

With a digital card you'll get a .dvr-ms file when you use the Microsoft DVR-MS mux, or a .ts file with the 'TS Mux' mux, or a .mpg file with the Cyberlink or ATI mux filters.

I use VideoReDo Plus to directly convert dvr-ms files to mpg files. I'm not convinced the editor is doing much to the file contents; it is probably just modifying headers and copying the file.

You could try simply renaming the files to .mpg and see what happens. Be aware that a lot of digital TV comes in with AC3 audio which may or may not work as you expect with your DVD authoring package.

With TS Mux selected for recordings and I play the recorded show in GBPVR, I only get audio, no video. However, I can play the recording with Windows Media Player (any network client) and with my Roku HD1000.

Tuner is a HDHomeRun, tuned to a QAM channel at 720p. Is there any restrictions when selecting the TS Mux?

I was using the DVR-MS option and it worked fine with everything (including 720p and 1080i), but I could not watch the recording on the Roku HD1000 (using the MPlay app) in that MS TV format, I guess I could post convert. I may try renaming the file as well.

I also tried the CyberLink Mux (THMpgMux.ax Version 5.0.2022), but it could not handle HD (should it?).. SD was fine.

What is the current MUX recommendation for HD streams from a tuner like the HDHomeRun?

I'm curious what others are doing with a similar setup - different MUX or doing a post convert while using DVR-MS BDA Mux?

MY GBPVR server, XP Home, P4 2.53 (no HT), 512mb, ATI Radeon 9800 pro, PureVideo Decoder (currently set to Overlay) and I run the current version of GBPVR.

Thanks in advance!

This applies to any channel, SD or HD streams..
