HydroChronic Wrote:I didn't even realize that GameZone added a button to quit the game from a remote. Is it mapped to a hotkey or message code or anything that I can setup Ir.exe to send to GameZone?

Funny enough It was the feature that I actually wanted which wasnt actually offered by My Programs and inspired me to write GameZone, my PVR keyboard was being attacked on a regular basis by my grandchild so I wanted to get rid of the keyboard and the only thing I used it for was emulators!

If you look in the keymapping directoy in the GameZone.xml file you will see the entry

<command name="GameZone_Kill" key="Decimal"/>

just change the Decimal to whatever you would like to map it too, workd of warning here, I find it has to be something that is key that is not natively supported by GB-PVR so you cant use Stop for example. I have Hip setup to send GBPVR the Decimal key (thats the "DOT" on the number keypad when I press the RED button on my MCE remote. your mileage may vary also I am really not "getting" the issue with the remote control setups that means some remotes cant do certain things, I think its one of those things if I had a play with it I would understand the issue but up until now I have not heard an explanation that makes sense of why they cant all do what I am doing with the MCE remote.

As for the sub-directory feature I have not forgot about it, but I still need to get my head around a few things before I attack the filelist area as I want to make some radical changes there and it means alot more understanding of some of the more complex controls.

Have you thought about a save state and restore state command for the remote? Currently I have myprograms set up for 7 emulators and I've mapped the exit key on my remote to quit the emulator and go back to gbpvr, the record button to save state and the play button to restore state. Although I dont use save state and restore state too often, it would be a really great feature. It would also eliminate the use of 7 of the 10 available programs that HIP uses.

could you provide examples?
and which remote do you have if its not the Microsoft MCE one.

Thanks

What are you guys using to play the games? I always end up using my wireless keyboard. I was planning on picking up a wireless joystick, but haven't really looked into the range that they give yet. I need 10-15ft reliably. Using a corded USB joystick with no extra hubs lying around I think I could get around 10-15 ft, but I hate to have the cables strewn across the floor. Any suggestions?

Although both savestate and restorestate commands were in the keymapping/skin.xml

I bashed mu head against a brick wall for nearly a week until deciding to move on from trying to get the feature to work reliably. I have left the code in, still waiting for that Eureka moment as I am probably one or two lines shy of completed code for it :-(

So to answer your question, its a feature I would agree I'd love to have as the solution would open the doors to many other features as well, but not going to happen today....

:-(

you can pick up xbox controllers off ebay quite cheeply. The wired version works fine with xp, but I'd check first to make sure the wireless ones do too....

I have a PlayStation 2 controller USB adapter with a corded PS2 controller. I eventually plan to upgrade to 2 wireless controllers, since I dont see why they wouldn't work with the adapter. But unfortunetly the company I bought the adapter from recently went out of business due to legal battles with Sony (surprise surprise). If you want to go this route check ebay for the adapters.

Lots of alternatives for inexpensive wired gamepads all over the place. Seems like only the Logitech Rumblepad 2 wireless gets decent reviews for the PC.
I think I'll get an xbox to pc usb converter cable and steal my daughter's wireless controller and see what the range is like.

I haven't tried it with wireless, but I have used an xbox -> usb converter which works nicely.

Instead of buying an adapter I created one myself. The xbox controller cable is basically just a usb cable with a different plug on the end. I bought a very cheap xbox controller extension cable and spliced it with a usb extension cable. Even the coloring of the cables is the same so it was nice and easy.

I bought this one last year and have been very impressed with it. Supports upto 2 PS1 or PS2 controllers and has an easy to install/use driver.

Find PC controllers are mostly ripoffs of Playstation ones anyway. XBOX controllers maybe the way to go if wireless is a must mind.
