When I try to watch a dvd, it is really hard to hear the voices. I finally noticed that the background sounds seems to be much louder then they should be. It makes it hard to hear what they are saying.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

No, I am just using the standard 1/8" jack to RCA. TV audio is fine, just dvd playback is a bit screwy. I think it maybe something with the software mixer. I'll take a look when I get back tonight.

Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated,
-Hans

I had the same problem. I cant remember exactly how I fixed it. Try changing the number of speakers to 2 in the sound control panel. It also could have been fixed by installing the The AC3Filter for audio decoding.

It sounds like your sound card is trying to output 5.1 sound, and you only have one jack used, the front left/right - this would be why voices are so quiet, at they are trying to come out the centre/sub jack - which you are not using. Try what sniperdude mentioned, normally in Control Panel | Sounds |speaker settings | Advanced.

Thanks. I'll try that when i get home. It sounds like that is the problem. I'll post back when I find out if it worked or not.

Thanks for this post - I would have never thought of that...

Changing mine from Desktop Stereo Speakers to Stereo Headphones seems to have fixed the low volume problem...
