I’m new to this, so I may be overlooking something obvious, but I did search the forums to no avail. Playback of recorded TV freezes after ~5 minutes. The audio continues normally. Mouse movement does not cause the control buttons to appear. I have to close the program (“Victory at Sea” in this case, but it happens with others, too), restart, fast-forward past the freeze point and continue watching until the next freeze (at app. 5 minutes). Repeat. This happens whether playback is through GBPVR, Real MediaPlayer, or Windows MediaCenter. No other programs are running and the Norton Antivirus log shows nothing happening. According to the GBPVR log, the last item had something to do with the NetRadio feature, so I disabled that plug-in, but the same problem occurred.

I’ve got an AMD Athlon 64 3400 (~3mhz), 1g ram, Radeon X800 GTO 256mb. I’ve attached the logs.

Quote:12:14:00.406 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters:
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - GB-PVR Flow Status
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - Default DirectSound Device
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - Nero Video Decoder
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - Video Renderer
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - AC3Filter
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - InterVideo Video Decoder
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - Nero Splitter
12:14:00.406 VERBOSE - C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Video\TV\Victory at Sea\Victory at Sea_20070203_19302000.mpg
I'm guessing its something to do with the Nero Splitter that is being used during playback. On everyone elses install this would the 'Microsoft MPEG-2 Demultiplexer' instead.

Thanks for the quick reply. I changed the playback back to "system default" but, unfortunately, it still froze at the same point.

Although I changed the Playback setting in config.exe to "system default", II just noticed that the GBPVR.exe-native log still lists Nero Splitter, as in your post above. Any way to force a change to 'Microsoft MPEG-2 Demultiplexer'?

I'm not sure what setting you're talking about, because there is no setting to select the splitter/demultiplexer, this is something chose automatically by Windows, so it'll still be using the Nero Splitter. You'd need to either uninstall Nero, or download some utility to allow you to lower the merit of the Nero Splitter, which would stop Directshow from automatically picking it instead of the default Microsoft demultiplexer.

I followed your suggestion, but it still freezes (new logs attached).
(I uninstalled Nero Splitter and changed the default video setting in Control Panel to "Media Center Video." GBPVR now lists "MPEG-2 Splitter" in place of Nero.)

Incidentally, I was changing the "Video Decoder" setting under the "Software Mpeg-2 Playback" heading under the "Playback" tab in config.exe.

Sorry, I'm not really sure then.

I discovered that transcoding the original .mpg file to Xvid (.avi) eliminates the freeze-on-playback problem.
