With the Hauppauge software you can specify a 16:9 playback or 4:3 (a pan&scan or centrecut option) in the settings menu. How does GBPVR determine how to play the files back? Does it just use whatever was last specified in the Hauppauge software? I was playing with the new version of GBPVR last night and noticed that it seems to be showing the entire 16:9 frame (making everyone look tall and skinny) rather than the 4:3 centrecut which I had been using previously through the hauppauge software.

Discovered that something had gone screwy with the hauppauge software in the box. When i went back to the Hauppauge server everyone was still skinny and I could not change the aspect ratio. Switching the MVP power off and back on restored the aspect ratio and when I went back to GBPVR the aspect ratio was correct.

Good. One less thing to worry about...

At the moment GB-PVR relies on the defaults.

So does this mean that if I use the DVD2MPeg on a widescreen video, it will get cut off on my TV? (That's what happened on the 1st one I tried)

Is there any way to get the MVP to display it in letterbox format via GBPVR?

If not, is there a way to create the MPeg as a letterbox instead of a true 16:9?

I've converted lots of wide screen DVDs and the ones I've looked at on the MVP (which is just a subset so far) all have been fine.

Well I've used the DVDRipper plugin to record National Lampoon Vacation (widescreen 20th anniversary) and the Burbs. They both show up via the MVP as a centered full screen with the left and right sides cut off. Actually, it is losing a little off the top and bottom as well.

If I directly play the MPG on the computer it displays in 16:9 format. Are there some default settings that I need to change when recording?
