MPV not finding the GB-PVR Server

I followed the link but now the new software is trying to get an IP. I wont get it because I have connected the PC directly to the MVP with a crossover cable. My router is way too far from this configuration to use it.

should I get a router just for this?

You need to setup static ip try 192.168.1.1

raptoger, if you dont have a DHCP server, you need to let the original Hauppauge software boot the MVP.

Guys, the new version looks for an IP from the router. How can you assign an IP without a router? I just plugged on end of the cable to the MVP and the other to a PC not connected to anything. Anyways, I took the time to remove my router from the other room. I copied and pasted the dongle.bin from the new version and it worked with the router and the gb-pvr but not the remote.

Well, I just got it without a router using your instructions. Remote is working, and the softaware. I'm ready to go. However, I have a remark: the image is not that sharp, it looks somewhat blurry.
