Which OS?
This one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Fun...Legacy_PCs Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (WinFLP) is an operating system from Microsoft optimized for older, less powerful PC hardware. Microsoft's intent is to provide an operating system that will provide basic computing services on older hardware, while retaining much of the modern core technology in Windows XP Service Pack 2, such as Windows Firewall, Group Policy, Automatic Updates, and other management services. It is mainly designed as a full PC OS for older hardware, like a Windows XP derivative specifically optimized for legacy PCs. Minimum system requirements 64MB RAM (128MB Recommended) Pentium class processor 500MB HDD (1GB recommended) 800x600 screen resolution or higher Network Interface Card Key features Consumes lesser amount of RAM than full Windows XP (Improved RAM support for further application usage) Fully supports games (Installed with Media Support / Direct-X upon OS installation) Supports most Windows 2000 / XP applications Supports basic networking features Supports latest PC and laptop drivers Updates older machines to modern security specs Known cons Dial-up networking & terminal based connections are not supported May have backward compatibility issues with older programs (Windows 98) May have problems with old drivers OS installation may need skilled technician capabilities Installation requires full partition format Sounds like idea OS for a HTPC to me

You would do better to fire up nLITE & gut your copy of XP or windows 2000 if VMR9 isn't important to you.
With much work I was able to get a functional copy of windows 2000 going that only used 40MB of ram at boot up. I also lost the Add/remove button in the control panel somehow. OOPS. But at the time I felt it was a fair trade-off.

I'm trying to get it working.
Up to now everything seems fine. I've just had a problem with ACPI of my ASUS M2V board that wasn't recognized.

OK, finally it worked with less effort than i though.
It was just a try I gave and now I'm back to my fully functional Win XP SP2. The WinFLP experience. After the installation process ends I was pleased to see WinFLP immediately started to update from Microsoft site and after a the 43 updates (even Internet Explorer 7), were installed the system was operative. Further software packs I installed were: GBPVR (of course), a codec pack (klcodec283f from free-codecs.com), directx_feb2007_redist (from Microsoft), the v. 3.3c drivers for my three HVR-1300 and finally the Cyberlink muxer. A few changes in my batch files because of the the move from an Italian to an English system and... ready to start. What I can say after a 3 hours run is that it worked fine a part:

I have installed it on my "work" PC which is an old atherlon 700 with 256 meg of memory. It works very well. It is noticeably faster than Windows XP. It didn't automatically install all the required drivers. However I was able to "update" the missing drivers using my windows XP cd. My HTPC is running like a dog at the moment so next weekend I am going to rebuild it using windows fundamentals for legacy PC - I get sick of all the bloat that windows install that will never be used on a PC that is purely a HTPC.

maddog Wrote:wow seems like ms is trying to destroy nlite now lolISO file is available here While for the key you have to google around the net. I tried to use one I have of an older XP Home but without success. If you gat problem in recognizing ACPI you'll have to press F5 at first installation startup as described for XP installation) and if this don't solve your problem you can try what is written here One thing more VMR9 works fine but it needs drivers coming with your graphic card (mine is an ATI X300).
