I'm reading through docs and it seems this HIP program is a way I can control all of the actions for the codes the remote sends. However, I also get the impression that I can modify the native support for the MCE 2005 remote. I can't find what file has this data, and where the commands are for each button.

Basically I want to make the Recorded TV button launch XRecord plugin and select Ready button so I can see all recorded programs.

I also want to make the pretty Windows logo button do something.

The native support for the MCE remotes are not configurable. If you need to do this you'd have use either HIP or Girder.

You might be able to get part way there by setting <DefaultPluginRecordings>XRecord</DefaultPluginRecordings> in config.xml

You'd need HIP or Girder for this one also.

I have a MediaPC and prefer GBPVR over MediaPC, I too would like to be able to do this, and HIP looked good, but I could never figure out how to use it. I tried, but never got anywhere with it. I use for "channel changer", "MCE2005 IR Blaster Plugin". This makes all the MCE buttons, except the "Green" Windows button, control GBPVR, but they also still go to MediaPC as well.
In other words, when I hit "guide" button while watching LiveTV, I get the GBPVR guide overlay on LiveTV, but I also get MediaPC screen. I then have to close the MediaPC screen. I think I need to replace the ir driver with some other driver, but not sure where to find this other driver.

It sounds like you may have already read the guides, but if not, be sure to read the HIPGuides...

The MCE Alternate driver is now included within the full install of HIP.

As the install/config is longer than I care to type again, read through it, and then post specific questions.

I have been able to get all the buttons working so it is possible...

There were a couple of buttons that I decided to change the functionality...

The pound key becomes {F7} for apspect ratio change
DVD Menu becomes the PreviousChannel...
The TV button calls a program to turn off my monitor
The PC Button only closes GB-PVR...

If I use HIP, will I have to program all of the buttons (it doesn't remove GB-PVR functionality), or does it allow me to program buttons that work in addition to what GB-PVR supports?

If you use HIP, the remote and GB-PVR will no longer interact directly with each other.

The alternate driver severs the remote from the operating system so you won't be able to turn off the computer either (at least not the direct MS way)

There are templates that you load in HIP that would make most of the buttons work right out of the gate...

Try it. The worst that can happen is that you go back to the original MS driver and you have GB-PVR work natively with the remote, and not have some buttons...

I assume there's a technical reason why the remote codes can't be something that can be configurable? It sure would be a nice feature.

Worked like a charm! Where can I find a doc on what all of the buttons are programmed to do for MCE remote? The DVD Menu button does nothing.
Sounds like HIP requires me to reprogram all buttons.

Just because it was easier for me to implement it that way, and because third party solutions existed if the users need to customise things (HIP, Girder).

Not all. Yes the dvd button needs to be assigned...
