Hi Folks...

I have read through numerous posts concerning this. But not one recently. I have 2 Powerline 85 adapters that I woul love to get working with MVP and GB PVR. I have them working but can't seem to get the MVP to boot. It boots fine with a direct attachement (wired cat 5 to my network) but not when I switch it over to my powerline. Bootserver does not seem to work on the mvp side? Any thoughts ? Thanks.

It sounds like you are trying to replace the direct connection with a bridge which might not work. My thought would be to plug the non-mvp end into your router.

I don't see how this could make a measurable difference, probably placebo effect.

Ok... This is my setup....

Right now I have an MVP hardwired to me network switch (10/100). Unfortunately, it is a 25 ft cat 5 cable stretch from my master bedroom to my office where my GB-PVR server is setup. It works great. By the wife would like the cabling removed if possible. Something about it is unsitely!

so I picked up two Powerline 85 mbps devices. One is plugged in by the MVP/TV in bedroom and one is plugged in by the server and cabled to network switch. The Powerline adapters seem to be working...I plug a laptop into the bedroom adapter and it provides connectivitiy...

But the MVP will not boot...

Any help....please....

Thanks...

I am not familiar with your setup, but I will assume a few points.

MVP -> powerline adapter -> Linksys router.

Turn on DHCP on Linksys router.

Turn off DHCP on powerline adapter if possible and assign an IP to power adapter.

Assign static IP to MVP base on MAC address if possible.

ps. Picture is from Dlink static IP assignment via web configuration.

Thanks Tipster and Replay....

Replay you are correct in your assumptions...

except my powerlines do not require/allow me to add an IP to them...

I guess I need to look more clearly into my routing tables and IP address table.. I will investigate this tonight...

I really would like to get this working and compare it to running cat 5. In my house running new cat 5 is going to be quite difficult. I have tried wireless, but I did not like the results I recieved from video output. It was not as consistent as wired connectivity.

Thanks. I 'll keep you all updated.

Not sure whether this will help you much but here goes..

I have the netgear hdx101 200Mbps powerline gear and encountered similar problems. It seems the MVP does not like to play nice with the netgear powerline stuff, and long story short, it requires a switch in between the MVP and the powerline adapter in order to work reliably (for both bootloading and streaming).

If you have a switch handy I suggest you give this a try.

Thanks for the note; I was looking at maybe going this route but now... Cat5, ladders, and holes-in-walls I think.
