i have a hauppage pvr 150 retail tv tuner card to, using winxp with sp2 and i also have a viewsat xtreme dish receiver with dishnetwork programmation on it. GB-PVR is setup correctly for the cable coming from the tv+cable, so i can watch and record shows...but now im trying to setup gb-pvr with my viewsat receiver so i can watch shows from the receiver to my pc monitor. I connected the receiver as usually with the coaxial cable and to my computer with an s-video cable to the hauppage tuner card...but i dont know how to setup gbpvr so it will detect the receiver and the EPG aswell. anybody has a step-by-step guide how to setup it correctly in the config. I can use the receiver with wintv2000 that came with the card but i prefer gb-pvr more

sub Wrote:When using an IR Blaster with GB-PVR to control a set top box, it only sends channel numbers, nothing else. GB-PVR only uses the IR Blaster for changing channels, and assumes its always on.

Remember, your Hauppauge remote is used to control GB-PVR, not your Dishbox. This is entirely separate from GB-PVR's use of an IR Blaster when it needs to tell an external box to change channels.

But we should be setting up our remotes with the Hauppauge IR software config first and then using the GB-PVR .exe later, correct? I couldn't even get my box to turn on and off with the Hauppauge IR software. I was thinking it was a IR blaster issue with my receiver. But if what you're saying is right, I should only be able to change channels? Or is this only with GB-PVR?

Yes, more specifically you should configure the Hauppauge BlastCFG software for the correct set top box, prior to GB-PVR being able to use the IR Blaster.

This is just a GB-PVR thing. It only tries to change channels. It doesnt try to keep track of whether the set top box is powered up.

I set it up exactly as sub describes and it works perfectly. I installed the blaster SW from Haup for my 150 and use it with the included cable. First I configured the SW by scanning for a code. It settled on 0136 for my dish 301. Then I used the .exe setting in GBPVR and directed it to Haupblast.exe. It works perfectly. It can be a little slow on some of the local channels that are 4 digits, so I eliminated those from my zap2it account and use the 1-2 digit versions (I am not sure why Dish lists the local channels twice). I use Win XP on a dedicated 1.7ghz box with 512K of memory and it has never missed a show!! Thanks Sub! Big Grin

The only time I had an issue was when I used the newer version of the blaster SW on the Haup website. I upgraded from the version on the CD and it did not include the 0136 code. If you can't find a code it seems different versions of their blaster SW have different codes. Try a different version!

My remote works perfectly for changing the channels and I never turn off the Dish box. I set it up to try to record to the (nonexistent) VCR from 4:am to 3:59am every day so it never sleeps. I found that workaround on the forums. Otherwise you run into the issue where it goes to the Dish logo and GBPVR can't control the box.

BTW: I had an initial issue where the socket on the 150 card for the blaster cable was too close to the metal on the back of the computer so the plug would not go in all the way. I had to mess with it a little to get it to work. Be sure you see a red light on the end of the blaster when it tries to change channels otherwise it may not be in all the way.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to try it again on my Dish VIP211 box. I tried the Hauppauge BlastCFG and couldn't get any codes to pick up. But now that I have more time I will try again. I have a USB-UIRT coming in the mail soon so I'm confident that will get it to work. GB-PVR was great, but I just couldn't get my IR Blaster to work right.
