AVerMedia M780 vs Hauppage 1600 Review

MissingRemote has posted a pretty nice review comparing the AVerMedia M780 to the Hauppage 1600.

I think both work with GBPVR our of the box (they should); one is PCI (1600) and the other PCI-E (M780).

Probably good reading for anyone interested in an analog and digital tuner. No unencrypted QAM is available on either of these.

QAM won't be supported in GB-PVR on these until Hauppage releases how to implement the QAM support. There is no standardized way to do it so each manufacturer is different. AutumnWave has released this info to sub regarding their OnAir GT and the HDHomeRun implements a remapping technique, so they are the only two devices available for QAM.

Have you seen any confirmation of anyone using QAM with this device with any app? I know their driver names have always implied QAM support, but when I last talked to Hauppauge about this, they indicated this wasnt a reality in the drivers yet, but something they hoped to add in the future.

Its just what I see on the 1600 support page under beta software. It lists
Installation CD Version 3.4C beta 1 with QAM support for WinTV-HVR-1600 product codes 74021 and 74041

The date on it is 5/15/07

I'll give it a go later and see if it does anything. It claims to work with WinTV v6.
