Watching other types of videofiles on GBPVR

I'll have to agree with gEd, his problem is that the PVR350's tv out can only be used for MPEG1 + MPEG2 playback. No codecs or decoders come into the equation when you're using the PVR350 tv out - since all the decoding is done in hardware.

Assuming this, you are both correct...but still we're all 'assuming'. I'll reserve judgement until the OP responds...

I'm not assuming anything. I know for sure It doesnt matter what codec you have installed when doing playback via the PVR350 tv out. In this type of setup when you play a file, the only two directshow filters used are the 'GB-PVR Push Source' filter and the Hauppauge PVR350 decoder filter - no others are used.

Wasn't saying you were assuming about the PVR350 out not using codecs, you are assuming that the OP is using only the PVR350 TV out for playback. If he *isn't* then the standard codecs would come into play. I *know* you know for sure in the configuration you stated - I just don't know for sure that he is using the configuration you stated. Noone here does. We are ALL assuming.

Again, if the OP would respond we would know for sure. While you are most probably right, I would like to know more first - like how his HW is setup. In any event I am, like you, just trying to help.

Sorry - I'd not meant to enter into a debate over it, but by my reading it looks like he did respond and confirmed gEds previous assumption about using the PVR350 tv out.

you can only watch mpg files via the tv out on the 350. If you want to watch avi files you need to transcode them into mpg in realtime. Sorry, I don;t know if there is anyone here that does this or how it is done.

the tv out on the 350 is no longer supported due to bugs in the driver that cause the card to hang for many users. It is supported as a tv tuner device.

I would advise you to consider connecting to your tv via your graphics card and installing an mpg decoder instead. You can do so much more with this setup.

That sounds like a sound advice. I have to try with the graphics card then. Is there any secrets getting this to work? Is it standard setup in Windows that is the solution? How do I set up the mpg decoder?

was about anime, the fansub group I like (KAA: Kick Ass Anime) heavily promotes the CCCP, so I was assuming that you had some of their subs as well. They are a very popular group, and have really high quality subs/video.

About my hardware questions, I had assumed that the OP had figured out that he couldnt really use his 350, and would try to use his graphics card for TV-out. sub's post above supports this. I also assumed that kaizen and gEd had pointed him in the right direction in terms of finding codecs.
So I moved on to configuring things, like making sure he had a card capable of TV-out, and how he would go about configuring it. I also asked for full system specs to see if there would be any performance issues while decoding.

Wow. This made a big debate.
Just to cool things off. I use the TV-out of the Hauppauge PVR 350 card. Now why do I do that you may ask? Primarily because earlier I have had problems configuring TV out of graphics cards and TV-out works without a hitch on the 350. Now that I have some programs in other formats than mpeg2 I am trying to get this to work on my GBPVR box. The answers to my post clearly states that I must use my graphics card witch is a NVIDIA GeForce2 Pro (Microsoft).

My next question to all you dedicated people is Can this card be used? It has TV-out, and how do I configure this? In Windows or in GBPVR?

I found it in an old PC at work so we can reckon it's four years old.

If it has tv out, it is worth trying, you have nothing to loose!

you configure it in windows and you need to set the tv out as the primary display if this is the only screen connected to the card. The driver may do this automatically for you if you boot the pc with only the tv connected.

If you use a monitor as well, then it should be the secondary display but I recall others having problems with this config in the past. In this instance you would set gbpvr to display on second monitor in config.exe.

you should set the resolution to 720x576 for PAL and 720x480 for NTSC. If you have the latest nvidia drivers, they can help you with this if you cannot select these resolutions. (add your location to your profile so people know where you live and therefore what TV standards will apply to you)

If it doesn;t work (or the picture stutters or looks bad) then it will be time to buy another card, possibly second hand off ebay? I just bought a passively cooled 6600GT off ebay for £40. The only problem is, this was more my neighbour, not for me

yeah i think my first card i had was that and a hollywood plus card for mpeg decoding/dvd playback it was the card at the time haha

if it was me the only thing i would add is try single display if you can see enough to set it up on your tv or set it to single display once you start testing video playback


ideally get another card with hardware acceleration makes video playback on low powered machine a breeze
