I guess I'll just keep playing around with it. I might try a new video card.

Can you make any recommendations (generic or otherwise) for the following settings? Based on the options there are 3,000 possible combinations so I'd like to try to narrow it down a little.

  1. Video Decoder (InterVideo from Hauppauge, Cyberlink, Nero, MPV, or HCW)
  2. Audio Decoder (AC3Filter, Cyberlink, MPEG Audio, InterVideo from Hauppauge, or ffdshow)
  3. Video Renderer (Overlay, VMR7, VMR9, VMR9 Custom, VMR9 Fullscreen)
  4. Hardware-Assisted Video Decoding (On or Off)
  5. ffdshow Post Processing (On or Off)
  6. BDA Multiplexer (Cyberlink, Microsoft, ATI MPEG, InterVideo, SS, or TS Mux)

I just installed the latest version, so I don't have much experience with it, but as a reference, the "HCW-Mpeg2 Video Decoder" is the one installed with the Hauppage hcwSMD07.exe with the HVR1600. It is pretty efficient for playback of HD ATSC streams if it will work for you; far better than the old InterVideo that Hauppauge used to use. With the video latest drivers, it will allow direct access to any PureVideo hardware on an nVidia card without pruchasing the PureVideo decoder from nVidia.

Previously, I thought hdtvpump was listed as needed for HD playback but I don't remember seeing any mention this time around. You also need a fairly new version of Window's media Player on the system.

I don't know about audio, but ATSC will have AC3 audio so you'll probably need a filter that does AC3. I also thought that the new interface required some flavor of VMR9. You might want to avoid post processing for now (ffdshow) and hardware assist will depend on your video card, drivers, and filters. 1080i and 720p generally require some hardware assitstance.

As for the BDA multiplexer, experimentation may be the only way to find one that plays smoothly on your system. Microsoft DVR-MS (comes in XP and above), TS-Mux (part of GB-PVR), and Cyberlink 1307 (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=25630) seem to be the best choices.

Thanks for your help, somehow I got it working.

The final configuration I settled on is the HCW video decoder (with hardware support), the ffdshow audio decoder, VMR9 custom renderer, and the Cyberlink multiplexer.

Although, some of the configurations that previously crashed GB-PVR work now, so I don't know what happened.
