OK, so my home made IR receiver for the bedroom client just suddenly stopped working.
Instead of fixing it, I thought I'd buy one of the microsoft remotes & receiver, as then my partner might actually use it (as the current one has no real usable labels on it - it's just some old one I had lying around)

Do all of the microsoft remotes enable you to do IR blasting as well? Do you actually need the IR emitters for this to work, or is it like the USB-UIRT?

Thanks

Sweet, I foud a place down the road from me who are selling them for 49 +GST

One more question, what is the length of the cord on the receiver (gotta see if I need to buy a USB extension cable)

I must be missing something as well... I have an HP receiver and a MCE ver.2 remote that I can't seem to get working. I have the latest version of Girder and HIP, I also have Windows XP Pro with the "Update Rollup 2 for eHome Infrared Receiver for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005" installed. HP receiver is pick up as a Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver and when I go to Windows Update there is nothing listed under hardware.

The problem I'm having in HIP is when I start the wizard and then go into the HID configuration I see this 4 times under "Compatible HID Devices"
Unknown Device (1118,109). So figure what the hell I try to set it up anyway, so I click the test button and then press the enter button on the remote; the remote is detected. Now it says Confirm Code, so I press the enter button again but this time I get "***Values do not Match***". If I attempt to continue the rest of the setup and then try the Test option again it does nothing like it's not getting any input. I tried following the GBPVR wiki article on setting up a MCE remote through HIP, but once I get to this point "Aim the MCE remote at the receiver and press the ‘play’ button. HIP will ask you to confirm, so just press the play button again." again nothing happens. If I try to setup the remote through Girder, it doesn't see the device period regardless of what I do.

I hope someone has some idea of what to do. I've been working on this little project for about three weeks now and if my grass gets any higher I'm gonna have to be like Arnold in the movie Predator and chain-gun shoot my lawn to cut it!

Thanks

have you loaded the mce file soemwhere in hip i forget where

import configuration then select mce file from the file that came with hip
i ended up deleting most things and just use the start button otherwise you get double hits
then i add my own custom buttons for the like of winamp or power dvd
then you have to add pvrx2.exe/winamp.exe/etc to programs to run on the first page of hip this lets hip know what its mean to be controlling
everything else should work just by selecting mce remote in gbpvr config(you have done this )

i dont use the wizard

Yea, that was one of the steps in the wiki article...

Thanks for the suggestion though.

most of the funtion should work out of the box just the start button doesnt start gbpvr so if you cant control gbpvr once you have opened it then maybe the controller isnt working as it should

I haven't done anything thing in GBPVR yet because It seems like I couldn't even get any consistent feedback in HIP. However, I have not tried to simply import a configuration file. I will try that now.

yeah it does wierd things when trying to do what you are doing
i would open config and get it going without hip first
then just import the file
hip file/preferences/alternate input/add value from thier (i only have the start button in thier all the rest are done by gbpvr config itself so think you have to delete them if they are their or you will get double hits when you press buttons)

alternate input should look like this

Run PVRx2... EXEC(C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr....Start
to get this you use the +add value then fill in the details
