Ok, I understand those instructions Tony, thanks. Nice and easy as gEd said.
Only trouble is, when I hit Update EPG I get the dialog saying updating then it goes away and I'm left with an empty channel list in the Capture Source dialog. So I'm assuming this won't work when I then scan for channels?
Nomad101 Wrote:I was just about to ask you if you needed to scan for channels before updating the EPG (then go back and map channels). I don't used DVB EPG so thought maybe you needed to scan first so it knew where to update from but I assume it works that out!

hummmm. I can't be 100% sure and I don't want to hose my config just to find out.
Sp4rky: if you have epg set as dvb epg and it doesn't work. scan for channels first, then try and update epg, then go back in and map channels.
we really should get this stuff written up on the wiki!
âIf this is the way Queen Victoria treats her prisoners, she doesn't deserve to have any.â
When I scanned for channels it didn't give me any drop down boxes to link channels up. All I got was a channel name and an "enabled" checkbox next to it.
no we mean in the map channels to epg button within capture sources. the channels tab is just to enable / disbale which channels appear in the tv guide.
"In the morning" - where's your stamina. You're supposed to stay up all night trying to figure this kind of stuff out ;-)

Okay, ignore my previous instructions! I've just cleared my config (after backing up my DB and config.xml) and started from scratch to try this out then restored everything back to normal.
It seems with DVB EPG the process is reversed (ie scan for channels first then update EPG) and in the map channels page there is only one column of channels and the checkboxes (no drop down lists). I suppose it makes sense because the channels names will always match so no need to map them.
When I tried doing an EPG update first I had the same result as you (nothing in the list at the bottom) and the update EPG process only took a few seconds so it didn't really scan. Normally it takes a few minutes with DVB EPG updates (how long does yours take?).
So the problem lies elsewhere, maybe with the BDA Multiplexer setting as suggested earlier (problems with the muxer can cause 0byte file sizes). I would leave it set to Microsoft DVR-MS (built into XP SP2) until you get the problem sorted.
Cheers

In the Capture Sources I select my source and click edit. The I head for "Map digital channels to EPG channels". In that dialog I have a list of Channel Names an Enabled checkbox next to each (screenie attached).
When I hit Update EPG a dialog pops up saying "Starting Scan". It appears to scan a few channels then time out after 60 secs.
(My stamina is tuned in for 9-5 operation unfortunately)
