Hi All,

I am trying to get GBPVR working but and facing a few problems. My setup is as follows:
Quote:PC:

MSI K9AGM2-FIH motherboard with onboard HDMI output
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1GHz) Socket AM2 Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Cache
Kingston 1GB DDR2 667MHz / PC2-5300 MEMORY CL5 1.8V NON ECC UNBUFFERED
Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII Hard Drive 16MB Cache
Samsung SH-S183 SATA 18x DVD±RW/RAM Black
Antec NSK2480 MATX Desktop Case Black & Silver - With 380W EarthWatts PSU
Hauppage HVR1300 card

Software:

WinXP Prof SP2 32bit
Windows Media Player 11
DirectX 9c
GB-PVR 1.0.16
DScaler5

Tele:

Panasonic Viera TH37PV500 37" HD Ready tele (UK model)

I've connected my PC to the tele via HDMI. Now to mention my list of problems with DVD playback:

1) If I use PVRX2.exe I get tearing of the images if there is movement like a car moving across the screen or if the camera pans from the top of a building to the bottom for example. Also, the colours look a bit muted. Also, I do not see the OSD i.e. ff/rw, pause, etc. All I get in terms of OSD is the progressbar.

2) When I use GBPVR.exe I get the same tearing as above if I'm using VRM9, VRM9 Custom or VRM9 FSE. Only the overlay mode works the best with excellent colours and smooth video playback. However, in this mode I also notice that when I'm watching trailers on a DVD the picture jitters when there is any movement i.e. when there is a hand movement the hand appears to jitter. The main movie plays smoothly, just the trailers jitter. As an example, when I watch (Finding Nemo - Disney DVD), all the trailers like monster inc, lion king, etc. jitter, but the main movie itself, plays fine. Any idea what's going on. The jittering goes away if I switch to VRM9 custom, but then I get the tearing even on the main movie.

I am using DScaler5 decoder and this is the only decoder installed on the machine. Ideally I'd love to use PVRX2 but am unable to get decent DVD playback using it, not to mention the lack of OSD.

Now all the DVDs play fine in WMP11 both in Overlay mode and in High res mode with no jitter or tearing and it is using the same DScaler5 decoder.

This is really driving me nuts. Someone please help.

It will all be in your dvd decoders. Unfortunately there's no magic bullet, and every rig is different.

A lot of people recommend either the Cyberlink or purevideo decoders - but no-o ne will be able to say which one you should use..

Thanks for the reply. I have tried trial version of with both Cyberlink and purevideo decoders as well with the same result. With purevideo I had the additional problem of the audio not being there during DVD playback.

What does not make sense to me is why the same decoder works in WMP11 and there are absolutely no jitters and tearing.

Any suggestions are welcome. I would really like to make this work for me as I think it is is the most flexible media centre software with a great community behind it.

Also try running PVRX2.exe with the "-fse" command line parameter. PVRX2 doesnt pay any attention to the video renderer settings in the config app, and is always using the VMR9 Custom renderer unless you run with this command line parameter, which makes it run in VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive.

Yes I've tried running PVRX2.exe in -fse mode and I still get tearing of the image when there is movement.

One other thing to mention, I uninstalled DScaler5 decoders and installed MPV/MPA decoders and found that when I run GBPVR.exe in overlay renderer, i do not get the jittering while watching trailers, etc. So maybe a step in the right direction.

you cant just tick fse in config to get it going
you have to add it to a short cut
so the line "target" you should have
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\PVRX2.exe" -fse

when using wmp11 you may find its not using direct 3d

I did try it by appending -fse just as you mentioned.
