HVR-1600 QAM, GBPVR hangs during recording

I did a quick manual recording for a couple of minutes. Here's the logs.

From what I can tell, it's not finding the Cyberlink MUX?

I tried the same channel again, and this resulted in another unwatchable video.

Yeah, its not findind the Cyberlink mux with either of the names it uses.

It might be worth trying to deregister, then reregister the cyberlink mux to see if it helps.

Are you running on vista? If so, you may need to register the file from a command prompt running as administrator.

That seems to have done the trick. I'm now able to record directly to MPG files. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I still get garbled files when I try to record my local NBC station. No errors, the file is just unwatchable.

I've tried running the file through VideoRedo, Remuxing with Retime and TmpEnc, and loading into VirtualDub mod. I get the same garbled results no matter what I try (most programs complain about the file in one manner or another).

I can record other channels with the same resolution and equal or higher bitrates, so I don't think that's the issue.

I can watch the channel Live in GBPVR, I just can't record it and have a usable file.

Any ideas?

Seems far-fetched, but are you recording to a really slow drive that a 18Mbit stream is having trouble being written properly? Is it a slow external drive?

If you have another physical drive on your PC, try recording to that.

Could also be a PCI bandwidth issue? Not sure if that's possible to cause a problem like that. :confused:

Usually when i see garbled it's a signal issue, but you say you can watch it fine in live tv.

I have the 1600 and I've seen some garbling for a second or so a couple times on high bitrate 1080i stations, mostly NBC as well. You seem to have it all the time though, and it is pointing to hardware or mux, and if the DVR-MS records garbled, then that kind of rules out the mux.

No, I have a dedicated internal 250 Gig drive I use for video work only. My local PBS station provides higher bitrates than the NBC station, and it records fine.

Yep, I've tried both the DVR-MS and Cyberlink MUX's and get the same results with either (just different file formats).

I would assume it's a fault with the station, but I can't figure out why I can watch it fine but can't record it.

Sorry, I dont know. If its only the one channel, then I'm guessing there is something funny about the encoding used than channel that trips up the mux or something similiar.

I'm curious, when watching "Live" TV, isn't GBPVR really recording to disk and watching from that file? If that's the case, where would that file be located?

Out of curiosity, I tried recording that channel again this morning to see if I could watch the file in GBPVR, but after the recording it didn't show up in the "Recordings" listing. Why isn't it there, and how do I get it to show up?

It's really frustrating, because I'm SO close to having the digital side fully working.

What are the functional differences between watching live TV and recording? Different encoders, different MUX, etc? I don't even know where to look more.

No it doesnt save to disk. By default GB-PVR is set to use live preview mode which goes straight from the capture device to the screen - no disk buffering.

At recording time, the only difference is that a mux is used to make a file.

Its probably something funny about the broadcasters encoding of this channel.
