Stustunz,

OK, here's the gbprv.db3 file that you requested. I added four or five channels manually but when I opened PVRX2, the channels that showed up in the TVGuide there were not the same channels that I added manually in the config app. I sent that info along to Sub with the log files he asked for.

Well, I think I've about had it for today. I'm going to hit the sack. Thanks for your efforts in trying to solve the problem. I'll probably catch you sometime tomorrow evening.

Does enabling Live Preview mode on the misc tab of the config app help? If not, can you post the logs with it enabled?

Sub,

No, checking "Live Preview" doesn't seem to make any difference as I've tried that in the past. However, I did check it again just a while ago and brought up PVRX2 and attempted to watch Live TV. The results are the same as always.

There are some new developments, however, since your last message. I've been thinking recently that perhaps some other software on my computer may be interfering with GBPVR. My computer has a lot of multimedia software installed: several DVD authoring programs, burning programs, editing software, etc. Are you aware of any programs that are known to interfere with GBPVR?

Anyway, with that thought in mind, yesterday I installed GBPVR on another hard drive on this computer (having removed the regular hard drive) and was surprised to find that it ran and I was able to watch TV and record! That hard drive has far less multimedia software on it than the normal hard drive for this computer. I suppose there could be some other reason but it also seems possible that some software on my regular hard drive is interfering with the program. What do you think?

I have a number of concerns about how PVRX2 is running but I'll address those concerns in another email later tonight or tomorrow.

As I said in the last email, I did manage to get GBPVR/PVRX2 working with a different setup but there are some problems still. First is the channel lineup. Although I put the channels in manually as they were in the Tuning Assistant, the setup in the Channels tab and in the TVGuide is totally different. The relationship to the station call letters and the channel number showing makes no sense at all. Regardless of what I put in, the TVGuide starts at channel 99. For example, WGBH is put in as channel 2 but in the TVGuide it shows up as 99. Similarly, CN8 was put in as channel 3 but shows up in the Guide as 100. All the channels follow this pattern. What's going on here?

How do I stop a recording after it's started? Last night I tried to stop a recording about fifteen or twenty minutes after it started but it wouldn't stop.

For me the more serious issue is what I saw in a side-by-side comparison between GBPVR and WinTV2K. The quality of the Live TV from WinTV2K was definitely superior to that from GBPVR, markedly sharper, better contrast, and greater color saturation. From all I had heard about GBPVR/PVRX2, I had expected just the opposite. As far as I've been able to determine, there are no adjustments in the software for those properties.

Finally, why does PVRX2 display Live TV in 16x9 when I checked 4x3 in the config app?

wipe out your station then doa epg update then add the correct channel numbers or frequencies to the stations

when you add your tuner edit the medium recording setting to higher bit rate
you can also download the hauppauge tweak tool to increase the sharpness
other than that i dont know why its different as gbpvr really has nothing to do with the recording as such its more upto the hardware and its drivers i thought

this setting is to do with what happens you press f7 try it
when you set it to auto gbpvr uses this info to shape the picture for your tv

if you play the recording back in the same player as wintv recording are they still different?

Stustunz,

Thanks for the info about getting the channels set up right. It worked just fine. I just downloaded the Hauppauge Tweak Tool. I'll try using it tomorrow.

In talking about the difference in TV quality between WinTV2K and GBPVR, I wasn't talking about recording but watching live TV. I've done only a handful of recordings with PVRX2 but the recordings look about the same as the live TV. I have the recording level set for highest quality. As to the video decoder used under the Playback Tab, I'm using the InterVideo NonCSS Decoder for Hauppauge.

As pleased as I am to have gotten GBPVR working, it's under a special arrangement and not with my normal computer setup. The program still will not bring in any TV stations with my usual computer setup. I've uninstalled Power DVD and several other programs but none of this has had any effect on the "no tuners available" problem. That being the case, I've reluctantly decided to give up on GBPVR for now. It just isn't feasible to keep switching between two different boot drives. I'm always reluctant to give up on anything I set out to do but there are numerous other projects that I need to get started on. Thanks ever so much for your help.
