Newbie needs help

So I downloaded NativeUtilities.zip, scheduled a recording and put the PC on standby, it did not wake to record, do you have to enable it to wake or is it suppose to do it on it's own?
Also recordings are saved as a .ts file, is it possible to set it to save as .avi or mpeg?

You can check the check the GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log to see what times GB-PVR has asked Windows to make sure the machine is awake. Window's takes care of the rest. (or is supposed to)

The output file format of a digital recording depends on the mux you using. The TS Mux option will produce a .ts file. The Microsoft DVR-MS mux with produce a .dvr-ms file. The Cyberlink and ATI muxes will produce .mpg files. The default is Microsoft DVR-MS mux.

avi isnt an option though, since that would require re-encoding the video.

are you 100% you overwrote the old nativeutilities file ok?
the pc "should" wake up to record. you shouldn't need to do anything else.

you cannot save as avi, though you can set gbpvr to transcode them either immediately or at a set time.

to record to mpeg, you need a mux filter. take a look here

download a cyberlink mux, register it and then select the cyberlink mux in the last tab of the config util. btw: the mux's listed are not the ones it has found on your system, just the ones that are supported.

Thanks for the replies, the mux filter worked great, still can't get the PC to wake from standby, I have a DVD player with a USB port, I would like to watch shows on this, but without the commercials, how can I remove the commercials?

There is nothing built in that will remove the commercials. Some people have tried to use comskip combined with comclean to achieve this, but I wouldnt trust it enough to actually remove the commercials.

Not really. You can check GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log to check if it is asking Windows to wake up at the right time, and there are no error messages listed.

I reapplied the patch, it worked, now the PC wakes, I had my PC set to standby after 5 min of inactivity, but after recording it did not go into standby, is there a way to set it to go into standby or hibernate after recording? Thank you.

glad you have sorted out most of your problems.

some people do have problems getting the pc to go into standby. make sure you don't have any other services or programs running that might keep the pc awake.

I am currently using hibernator from the green button website. runs as a screensaver. works fine for me but then my problem wasn't getting to pc to go into standby but keeping it awake when watching shows from the box over the network.

GB-PVR doesnt attempt to put a PC back to sleep, it just asks Windows to make sure the machine is awake when the recording is due to start. Windows takes care of the rest. If you want the machine to go back to sleep you'd have to configure Windows to auto sleep after a period of inactivity.
