I understand that I can use the MCE remote just fine with GBPVR, though some customization may be required.

However, many MCE remotes specifically say that they will not work without MCE. I know you guys brush over this in the wiki, but I want to know if it will work before I spend $60 on a remote.

My question is this: Will a MCE remote work on a computer with a standard copy of Windows XP?

I think MCE remotes typically work with XP Pro. With XP Home you might need to copy some files off a Pro install.
