Hello all.

I recorded my first show last night and ran into something I was not expecting at all. Using an M780 card (1 NTSC tuner and 1 ATSC tuner) I configured GBPVR to record an ATSC channel. When the time came to record I was kicked out of Live TV view into the main menu. Trying to get back in to watch I was presented with the message that I didn't have a free tuner and could only opt to watch what I was recording or return to the menu.

My confusion comes because this card is a dual tuner card. I'm confused as to why I can't watch an NTSC show while an ATSC show is being recorded.

Is this a limitation of the card, GBPVR, or just an overall misunderstanding on my part as to what dual tuner cards are capable of?

Thanks!

Sounds like the card is one tuner at the time. Not both simultaneously.

From what I found, it looks to be a single tuner, that can tune in both signals. Only one at a time. You are probably a victim of poor choice of description words used by the manufacturer on the packaging.

On the other hand, I read a few people say that it gets good picture, so that is a plus.

It does give a good picture, I'll give it that. But I got the card so I could watch something while recording another... curse AVerMedia for lack of proper word smithing. Sad

I've been considering getting a HDHomeRun to hopefully fix a few issues I've been having with the digital signal on this card. Guess this is just one more reason to put down in the "for" column.

Thanks!

i have this same card, and both tuners work simultaneously when using vista mce, so it's definitely possible for both tuners to work simultaneously.

does anybody have this working on gbpvr?

Try editing the direct.ini file, and renaming the [AVerMedia M780] section to [AVerMedia M780 (analog)], then edit your capture source to select the new card name (ie, so that analog and digital capture source devices have slightly different names). They try it again.

sub that worked! here's what i did:
- in direct.ini, i copied the [AVerMedia M780] section and pasted a duplicate section right below it.
- i renamed the new duplicate section [AVerMedia M780 (analog)].
- in config, i set the analog tuner capture setting to the [AVerMedia M780 (analog)] device, and the digital tuner capture setting stayed the same ([AverMedia M780]).

i'm recording two shows simultaneously right now (one digital, one analog) and all seems to be working great.

thanks for the help, and thanks for setting up a really nice program.

The card does work as dual tuner recording analog and digital at the same time
I actual tried it once to make sure, adittional the card has two tuner modules on it.
I had some strange stuff happen before i rebuilt my htcp; The local abc has been having trouble with there digital signal, so I would go into the guide and set up a quick recording of the analog channel and it would try to tell me that i needed to cancel the digital version, so I would and then I would go back and tell it to record the digital and it would work fine to record the digital and analog.
EDIT: I see the problem was fixed before i finished posting I will have to change the direct.ini file as well to avoid trouble. Sub will you be making the same change in the master?

Confirmed, it finally works. You only need to change the title with (analog), no need to make a duplicate.

Boiler98 I'm curious what trouble you have had with the digital side, I have had it working perfect for almost a year now sans the random trouble listed above which isnt really the cards fault.
