Hi All,

I recently obtained a wireless MVP to use with gbPVR so I can view movies and pictures on my TV. Everything is working except the MVP does not display the media (movies & pictures) I have stored on NAS device.

Here's my configuration:
- NAS Device has a share with all movies and pictures
- Windows XP Professional desktop connected to share on NAS (drive Mapping)
- Configured gbpvr for Video and Photo pointing to the mapped network drive tot he NAS
- Configured 1 MVP servers
- Disable Windows XP Firewall (no other firewall active)

When I run PVRX2 on the desktop I can see all media with the gbpvr system. From the MVP it connects to gbpvr and displays the chosen skin. I can navigate the menu but when I go to Video or Photo it just shows the name of the library and not the actual media (using PVRX2 or GBPVR it works fine when running on the desktop).

I copied a movie file from the NAS device to the local drive where GBPVR is running. I added that directory and I'm able to view the specific media on the local drive without any issues on the MVP. I can also play the movie.

My question is, are there any issues with MVP and a NAS device? From an OS standpoint this is just another drive on my system so it should see it as such. I appreciate any feedback on this as I have all my media stored on the NAS device and would like to continue running gbpvr on the desktop to stream the media to the TV using MVP.

Thank you for any feedback.

Remember the recording service, which controls the MVP server, runs as a different user account so it wont see your mapped drives.

You could either try changing the default user account used for the recording service to be your user account, or alternatively use UNC paths instead of mapped drives.

Sub,

thank you for the quick response. I tried the UNC path but it did not work so I changed the recording service to my user account and now it works. Appreciate the quick response and the great help! So far all is well.

When I found this thread I thought that I found the answer to my problem, but I wasn't that lucky...

I have a new MVP, enabled the Start MVP Server (1) in the config menu and I can watch live TV or GBPvr recorded shows.

When I go into the Video Library I see the list of 4 names that I have given to 4 different subdirectories/NAS shares, I can scroll through the names but I cannot enter any of them. All of them work fine on the PC but on the MVP.

Since this works fine for so many people I'm missing something obvious, but I just don't know what.

Thanks,

Zen.

Zen, give that it works for PVRX2 I still think that you found the correct thread and your problem is still either the networks permission issue, the UNC issue or both.

Thanks for helping me out, but...

I tried setting up my account for the Service (and learned that whatever account you use MUST have a password) without any change. Also the problem is for both shares and local directories.

I also don't see a way of entering a UNC path. When I go into the Directories tab, and select Add, I can only traverse a directory tree to select a directory, no option to enter a fully qualified name there.

On the dialog to choose the directory, go down the "My Network Places" path to find target machine share and directory path. This should end up capturing in UNC format.

Thank you! That did it.
