HELP! I have been using GBPVR (1.0.16) for many months now w/o any problems, until last week after the Microsxxt .NET updates. After that GBPVR (& ATI Catalyst Control Center- which also needs .NET) would crash at boot up. I have tried everything I can come up with, updated drivers, uninstall/re-install of all .NET versions & updates, update to vers. 1.1.5, tried all the Video renderers, tried re-install of DirectX,etc... I can now at least get GBPVR to load, but when I go thru Config I can only get to where I select Recording Source, and when I select my card,Config crashes. I have searched the forum and can't find anyone else w/ this problem, I know there have been many thousands of people who have had problems since last weeks updates, but apparently no one w/GBPVR. Any help/suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated, I cannot attach any logs at this point as I have not yet re-installed .NET or GBPVR - many thanks ! (PS.. please be kind as I am a newbie/first time poster:o)

I guess if it were me, I'd do a system restore to a point sometime before the update. I see where it looks like I got 5 updates installed on the 12th. Change your update scheme to only download and notify, and install 1 at a time until you figure out which one it was.

You said you uninstalled/reinstalled all dot net and updates. Do you mean that you uninstalled the updates through the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs? I've never tried to uninstall a hotfix that way. Maybe it's fine to do.

Just curious, how did you at least get GBPVR to load if you haven't reinstalled it yet? Ahhh.... I kill me sometimes.

Thanks for your reply, I tried doing a restore to b4 the updates (that was part of the etc...Wink ) it didn't fix it. I NEVER allow Microsxxt to automatically do updates, only notify me... I know which update did the damage, it was the update for .NET 3.0 ... I don't use add/remove programs, I use a combo of Absolute Uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller, or Windows Uninstall Cleanup utilities. I was able to get to Config w/o crashing, as GBPVR has been uninstalled, re-installed, updated, uninstalled etc... I just ran Belarc Advisor utility and even though Windows Uninstall Cleanup says it removed .NET 2.0, Belarc shows it as still being on my system. I have run Registry Cleaner many times after installs/uninstalls, but I 'suspect' there is still something lurking ... or possibly corrupted dll(s) somewhere...

I don't mean to sound overly critical, but maybe one of those uninstall utilties messed you up. I just use add/remove programs, but that is beside the point.
The point here is that I installed the same updates via windows updates (manually mind you - old school, using the website), and I do not have any problems after the update to .NET 3.0 (or 2.0, which also recieved a security update last week).
My question would be simply this, what else changed since your pc last worked the way you expect it to?
MAIN RIG - Opteron 165 @2900MHz
2x1024 OCZ Platinum @ 480MHz (3.3.3.7)
HTPC - Athlon 64 3800+
2x512 Corsair XMS C2
ATI Theatre Pro 550 - MCE Blaster - Comcast Set Top Box
Hauppauge HVR-2250

Thanks daveid for your reply, in answer to your question - nothing changed - only the .NET updates - I'm glad the updates worked for you, unfortunately they didn't work for many other thousand's of people, me being one of them. Anyone else with any suggestions?

Whats the error you are getting for the GBPVR crash? (or were getting)

Where did you see about these other thousands of people having trouble with the .NET updates? I assume that would be on some forum, and nobody has been able to supply you with a good answer /solution yet?

I would have thought that system restore would have taken care of everything, if were only hotfixes / updates which caused it - but maybe system restore doesn't remove any updates to key components? (such as .net)

Is catalyst control centre still using .net 1.1 - or has it shifted to 2.0?

If it hasn't shifted, then I would not have thought that GBPVR & CCC wouild be affected together as the 2 packages operate indpendently don't they?

sub - I am quite a newbie on this forum (or any forum for that matter), when I click on the link from your post, it just takes me to a post by night rider and I don't see anywhere that there is a patch posted - can you check the link or tell me what I am doing wrong? - thanks - JonnyCam - I can't tell you what the original error was as GBPVR crashed at bootup of windows and dissappeared b4 I could read it. The problem now (after re-installing the .NET framework versions up to 3.0) is PVRX2 keeps telling me that my system doesn't appear to support the required VMR9 video renderer. I have used GBPVR 1.0.16 for many months w/o a problem, after doing the service pack updates from Microsxxt for .NET 2.0 and 3.0 that came out last week I have had nothing but problems. I now have ATI Catalyst Control Center (which uses .NET 2.0) working, and PVRX2 will load w/o crashing, but when I go thru Config, I can only get to where I select Recording Source (after setting up the EPG Source), when I select my tuner card Config crashes. I am using the latest ATI drivers vers 7.12 that came out last night. I have an AGP card and there are known issues with ATI drivers since vers.7.8, with the latest drivers the Direct3D tests all fail (as with all versions after 7.7), I have tried all the driver versions from 7.7 to 7.12. - 7.7 is the latest version I can use where the Direct3D tests pass. But even with them Config still crashes at the same point. I have tried the latest vers of GBPVR and no matter what VMR renderer I try, I get the message my system does not appear to support the required video renderer. I have tried using the old GBPVR with the video renderer set to Overlay Manager and Config still crashes. I am so frustrated as I have never had such a persistent problem that I couldn't remedy myself in the 25 years I have been using computers. ANY help is greatly appreciated - I MISS MY GBPVR !!!

Sub, many thanks !!! Smile I installed the patch as you suggested, I thought it was just to provide you with more detailed logs - after I installed it I was able to get thru Config completely, I have version 1.0.16 installed, I still cannot get PVRX2 to start up (same VMR9 video renderer not supported error), I tried all renderers w/o success, I presently have it set to use Overlay Manager and when I try to start PVRX2 from the icon on the taskbar the same error message appears, but when I go to start/programs/gbpvr and select the old GBPVR (instead of PVRX2) it loads and I can watch tv and I was able to record a tv program. QUESTION: I know Overlay Manager produces a lower quality video, but is that only when viewing, or does it also affect the recording? I mainly use this as a PVR to record movies/tv shows and don't use it too much for just viewing - I am just VERY happy that I have at least gotten it to work this far, I have attached the logs for your viewing and comments - once again, many thanks !
