I have a pvr150 and have just installed a hvr1600. Before proceeding with the channel source configuration, I want to be sure I have the hvr1600 installed correctly (the device checker used to determine which tuner is device one and which is device #2 available from the wiki does not see the newly installed card). The computer itself found the new hardware and the related drivers have been installed; however, the pvr program is not recognizing it. Is this because I have only one tuner (the old one-pvr150) hooked up to the cable feed?

Also, I now have 3 hookups at the back of the computer: a tv connector for the pvr150, a tv connector for the hvr1600 and a atsc connector for over the air digital channels. Since I intend to use the digital tuner for QAM, I think I need to connect one cable hookup directly to the hvr1600 and then take the cable from the setbox and connect it to the pvr150 connector. Is this correct?

With respect to the remote controls, do I need to install both ir receivers or will the one remote (they are both identical) control the channels from both tuner cards? The reason I ask is that the remote for the pvr150 has stopped working since I installed the hvr1600. At first I thought it was because I had made the mistake of allowing both tuners to be listed as device 1 but I have since deleted the new capture devices and rebooted and still the remote does not work. I have also reinstalled the latest drivers from the Hauppauge site.

Any ideas?

The Device Checker utility was only really needed for telling the difference between a PVR250/350 and a PVR150/500, since Hauppauge reused the filter names between these two different families of device... so only ever used in mixed combinations of those devices.

Your PVR150 and HVR1600 will both be device #1.

Sorry, I cant answer the questions about the connections. I dont have a HVR1600, so not that familiar with it's connectors.

From memory the Hauppauge IR Receiver only works on the last device installed, so you'll probably have to connect it to your HVR1600.

I have a PVR 150 and HVR 1600 in my pc. They both are device #1. I don't have a set top box so I have cable connected to all three connections, 1 on the 150 and 2 on the 1600. I now have clear qam available on the 1600 and 2 analogue feeds, 1 from the 150 and 1 from the analogue side of the 1600. I can and have recorded 3 shows at the same time.

I have an almost identical setup. I just purchased a 1600 and installed it along side my already working PVR-350. Both cards are seen and work in WinTV, but I'm confused as to how to configure GBPVR to use the new card, particularly the ATSC turner. I'm assuming that I have to add a new capture device, but the only thing that GBPVR lists is the HVR-1600 (analog). How do I point it to the digital tuner?

I'm sure it must be obvious, but I must be missing something. Also, once you've recorded an HD show, can you watch it on an MVP? I don't even have a TV connected to my GBPVR server, so everything we watch is over the MVPs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

When you add your capture source you need to see the recording source to the 'BDA Recording Plugin' to find the digital side of thiscard.

No, the MVP will balk if you try to play a high def recording.

If you do a forum search you should be able to find some work arounds. Generally though, you'd need to do some type of pre-conversion to standard definition before you try to play it back on the MVP.

If you want to watch high definition files on a media extender device, the new Popcorn Hour devices work with GB-PVR and do high def playback.

Based on other posts from mvallevand, I think I should be able to get between 3 and 10 clear qam stations on the hvr1600 digital tuner in Ottawa, Canada. However, I must have the procedure for mapping the stations wrong as the digital tuner only displays a black screen. (I had tried to set the digital tuner up as the live tv option by listing it last in the capture sources but the computer moved it to the middle so I would need to know which Ottawa Rogers stations are clear qam to test the tuner using the record feature)

I have a signal booster and have split the incoming cable 4 ways: 1 cable to the set box that gets the encrypted stations and 1 cable to each of the 3 tuners (1 analog pvr150, and the 2 tuners on the hvr 1600). I am using the TX Mux multiplexer and I have made the following change to config.xml
<BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>true</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>

In the config panel, I mapped the digital stations available and a list of about 125-150 were found. A screen popped up asking me to enter the frequencies and each of the 125-150 was available as a choice. I mapped each found frequency to a channel to see which ones were clear qam stations sinc ethe list presumably includes the encrypted digital signal as well. When I tried to record two shows and watch one live (to test the functioning of the 3 tuners), the one tuner only showed a black screen - presumably the digital tuner.

From an earlier post by mvallevand of last July, it looks like the entries I need are

Should\can I just enter this information as is or would I have to manually edit a file using notepad?

Apparently, there is a post under hardware from mvallevand on his hvr1600 experience that I cannot find. Does anyone have the link to it? Since he is also in Ottawa, I thought that post might tell me what I am doing wrong.

As an aside, I am getting the occasional error when exiting, using the back button, from watching a show that is currently listed as recording in the pending menu which causes GBPVR to close and display a message that it has closed. I am guessing this relates to the mux or the new tuner (because it didn't ever happen before I installed the hvr1600) and will try to get more details to post a separate question with my logs.

OK, I've been futsing with this now on and off for the last couple of days. I think I may be getting closer, but I seem to be taking two steps forward and three backward.

Thanks to SubSmile, I configured the 1600 to use the BDA recording plugin, and that allowed me to set things up, update the EPG and come up with about 125 digital chanels, but no matter what I seem to do I can't see all off the chanels listed in config in the TV Guide.

I have since setup my PVR-350 and the analog side of the 1600 to use a separate EPG source that only contains analog chanels. I have configured SchedulesDirect to only list a few digital chanels for the ATSC side of the 1600. All the chanels I want appear in config, but none of the digital chanels show up in the Guide.

What am I doing wrong? This is getting so frustrating. I've emptied the EPG, deleted all the chanels, and then after updating the EPG, exactly the right chanels come back in config, just not in the Guide. Do I have to go through the scanning process and manually map the channels back to the EPG? As I mentioned, there are 125 to 150!!! and there is no way of knowing which ones should be mapped to which EPG listing!!!

Please tell me I'm doing something stupid and that there is an easy fix?

Thanks!!

Thats a lot more channels than I'd expect you'd get. If this is via QAM, then most are probably encrypted.

Can you see all the channels in the Hauppauge WinTV software?

That's a little tough to answer. When I scan in WinTV, it only comes back with 21 QAM channels. However, when I scan with GBPVR, it comes back with considerably more. (Sorry, I didn't bother to get an exact count, but it seemed like at least 60 or maybe even more.)

When I first set the card up, I had selected the digital lineup on Schedules Direct, and they listed about 125 digital channels. These all showed up in guide, and as I browsed through the channels they all appeared to work. They weren't HD, but they did appear to be digital (when viewed on my PC, the pictures appeared to be blocky and pixalated. Not nearly as good a picture as what I am getting via the analog channels!)

Now the 20 or so that are found by WinTV do appear to be HD pictures, much cleaner and sharper than anything I've gotten previously. I just can't seem to figure out how to get those channels listed in GBPVR, and what to map them to. Since GBPVR finds so many channels, I'm not sure where to begin.

Any thoughts?
