I have an ACPI enabled uniprocessor PC (as per the Device Manager in Windows XP) that doesn't have any standby options in the Windows XP Power Management Panel. I double checked it supported ACPI in the BIOS, but just simply couldn't get it to work.

P.S. I am running BootToGBPVR with all the steps enabled. I think this might have something to do with it... After I did all of these steps, things started going screwy...

download the MCE standby tool (MST - google it)
it will list the available standby modes and can set them too.

Thanks for the link. I am trying it now... Do you think the automatically logging in could cause this problem?

Apparently, it didn't display any standby modes for me, so I guess that solution is a no-go for my problem, but thanks for mentioning it though...

ISTR in the distant past having a similar problem. It was caused by installing XP when ACPI and stuff was turned off in the BIOS so the power saving bits were not installed.
The only solution I found was reinstalling XP. Might be worth trying if you have an old spare drive handy to test with first.

Do you think a repair would work?

I'd check the BIOS, and also try booting after removing all cards to see if you get any standby options under those circumstances.

You can fix this in Device Manager. Just update the APCI driver (usually its the first one on the list). When you restart it will find all the hardware.

Hi,

The video card could be the problem. Make sure you use the correct nvidea driver. The standard VGA-driver from microsoft does not support standby!
