today my client machine video card died
nvidia AGP6800
went to look at another card seems very limited in what you can get now for AGP
so anyway just want peoples experences

card one ati 9550 $nz89

card two nvidia 7600 $289

reason i ask its a older machine now dont really want to spend any money on it
i have just thrown an old ati 9200

would the 9550 be much better than a 9200 and will it do for reasonable playback

what do people think?

Boy, you know how to stir the pot, Sub. I wonder how the drivers are for that 2400?

yeah you have to remember we get ripped off alot of the time
i think it depends on what they buy them in for and if they dont turn over then the price stays high

yeah i thought the prices were stupid aswell pcie cards are half the price

I'll sell you mine for half that. Smile

Oh, crap, you need AGP.

If the 9550 works for other people, great. As for the 7600GT, any HTPC forum you look at will say it's a great card. I was even playing Bioshock and CoD4 at mid settings with mine at stock speeds. It's still a solid card even for games.

I was thinking it'd be a lot cheaper to get a buddy in another country to mail you one, but then you said these are the AGP prices. No way would I recommend spending x % more on an AGP video card when that money could be put towards a new and faster motherboard/CPU/PCIe. The "x" of course varies.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Yah, I recently (in $AU) got a MB with a onboard 6100, AMD64 4200 and 2GB Ram for $220

Of course the onboard NV is only a 6100 - still pretty good, but you can then get a 7600GT PCiE for about $45.
