Installing 1.2.9

Having wasted hours trying to upgrade to the current version which kept on crashing when executing the program. , I uninstalled the previous version deleted directory and re- installed, I now find that the config program crashes when it is searching for channels. I restored the previous config backups but program still crashes. Iam using a Hauppauge Nova T card on Vista business. I have updated the card's drivers and Wintv works fine. I have run out of ideas .

You may need to try running ReRegisterFilters.bat. Since you're on Vista, you'll probably need to do this from a command prompt that was started as administrator.

Did not work

I uninstalled program and tried to reinstall in passive mode but even this now fails to install program. Vista has obviously decided that 1.2.9 should not be installed.

I then went back to a restore point that I had made before trying to install new version which resulted in a working version 1.1.5. So there appears to be something in the 1.2.9 files that are upsetting my Vista system.

I strongly recommend that if you have a working Vista install activate a restore point and take a backup of the GBPVR directory before running the 1.2.9 install.

I too have tried for several hours and the closest I have got is to get it to crash every time I try to watch live TV.

I did post in another thread about this, the /passive doesn't work if you did not install the previous version in the default folder. If you run GBPVR10209.msi /l* log.txt you will see the msi installer is crashing trying to create a dialog box and fails with the internal error 2896 - I've overwritten my log file with this info now as I managed to get a (ha!) "good" install!

I went one stage further and copied my GBPVR installation (1.1.5) into the default folder and ran the upgrade again, limited to the extent that it crashes on live view without exception. Ran the config again to confirm that it had my channels and PVR-500 card.

Like you, system restore to pre-install and 1.1.5 is working subject to previous existing bugs/annoyances like the 'no signal' error showing on 1st run, failing to tune unitil you exit the program a couple of times. It really does seem like we need to have a couple of candles and a sacrificial chicken around to get this working in Vista.

I'd really like to be able to get the new schedule.exe to work in conjunction with DigiGuide (imho the best TV guide out there), but even schedule.exe crashes immediately. It might just be time to junk Vista 64/4GB RAM/DirectX10 and go back to a stable XP32 which will only recognise 3.2GB of RAM but certainly seems to be a h*ll of a lot more useable.

Just had a thought in that being a M$ TechNet subscriber, I'm running Vista 64 SP1 which doesn't come out until later for most peeps.
