When watching live TV using PVRx2 it's jerky and CPU usage is high

is this a processor issue video card issue or both

I'm looking to get a new motherboard cpu....

the problem is that i currently have a agp video card so i was looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ & Asus M2A-VM Motherboard

it has onboard video... I currently have a 5900FX ultra 256.

I have this motherboard, its excellent, but you can only have either HDMI or graphics card... If you are buying new i would recommend the newer AMD chipset, the 780.
It has better HD support and HDMI on motherboard allowing use of 3rd party graphics.

See this thread for more info.

Best to future proof these things!

Plugins: MusicLibrary2, Weather, Int Cinema Listings, Burn DVDX2, D-Box2 Plugin, DVD Ripper.

Are you talking about digital HD quality recordings or analog shows?
For analog recordings I am running an ATI 9600 pro with a AMD 2600+ and my CPU usage on VMR9 is around 20%. With overlay which is available on the latest version it is less than that. Does your video card have hardware acceleration and does the decoder take advantage of it?

I would assume the Video card has hardware acceleration but not sure if the decoder takes advantage of it

It would be SD digital shows (using a svideo cable to connect to Reciever)

Have you tried overlay to see if that uses less? I'm guessing the motherboard video isn't that great, but a 2200+ is going to be an issue also for HD decode.

Is that an additional PC in addition to the one in your signature? Your sig looks like it is the low end of the spectrum nowadays.

Once diamond changed hands years ago, their cards were less than their reputaion had been.

Only reason I brought that up is that I may be making hardware upgrades in the future. I know I need more RAM. Not sure what else besides a new HD capture card.

i had a 2000+ with an MX440 playing SD digital coming out of a sky box with perfect pix, no lag or frame drops.

Perhaps its your software set up and not your hardware...

May want to look into other video decoders. Quite a discussed topic here on the forums, give it a search.
