I finally got it to install also by turning off UAC after having the Error 1721/rollback problems mentioned above. But I have no sound either. This is on a new install of Vista SP1 on a new hard drive. GB-PVR is almost the first thing I installed, other than the HDHomeRun software and VideoLAN. And the hardware is the same as what worked in WinXP SP3.

I tried changing the Audio Renderer and Audio Decoder in the Playback tab to no avail. But the sound works OK otherwise, and DVDs play OK using the default Microsoft player. So I am stumped for the moment. It is not a huge deal, since I don't playback using GB-PVR or use LiveTV, but it is strange.

If you dont have sound then you most likely dont have the sort of audio decoder you need. In the US you usually have AC3 audio, so try installing AC3Filter (http://ac3filter.net/).

Thanks, that did it. I had AC3Filter installed on my last setup for other reasons, and didn't know I needed it here. But that makes sense because I am now using HDHR for my recordings, which gives me the AC3.

I am getting failure to register several .ax files during installation.
followed by an error about nativeutilities.

fresh install of vista from clean drive.
chose "run as admin" in menu after registry mod.
the horrible UAC is disabled and will NEVER be turned on again.

thursday was my first view into vista, and if I cant get GBPVR on here soon, the entire laptop will be formatted into XP.

Yes!

Heaps of happy Vista users out here.

I found I needed to copy all the ax files into Windows\system32 directory. Try registering the ax files from a command prompt after that.

I am still getting "Fatal Error" when trying to install this new version. I have completely uninstalled and deleted the old directory, turned off UAC, and restarted the machine. Its still not working. I don't know else to do. All I know is it saying "Fatal Error" across the title of the window and in the body of the window says "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

I just got it working with Vista. First try it gave me a fatal error. I had forgotten to install vcredist.zip (duh). I uninstalled and when I installed again it would get to the end and stop then complain about needing some software that was not installed. I uninstalled it, disabled UAV in vista, and reinstalled. Then it ran, but wouldn't show DVR-MS. I reregistered filters and now it is working.

I have tried installing the vcredist.zip 4 times now. Each time it acts like its about to start, then nothing happens. The window just goes away. I have even gone so far as to enable the hidden administrator account on Vista and installing the new package that way.

Found this:

Code:
it appears the gbpvr service is not being removed during the uninstall (with a reboot afterward).
It appears the installation script is failing trying to install the service as it already exists.

The service can be removed manually using the service controller command from a command prompt:

sc delete "gb-pvr recording service"

The msi installation proceeded normally once the service was removed.

Its now going further than before. Stuck at "Time remaining: 4 seconds" for a while now, but other than that, looks promising. (ahhh, thats cause the config window was open behind something else. Smile )
