Found this when I was searching for a way to use my old Hauppauge remote to switch my HTPC on and off. I think the MCE remotes are nicer because you don't have to mess with the hardware, but this seems like a good option.
I was going to set the power button to go to standby if I used this so I could standby the machine with the remote.
